바디우와 아감벤의 예외의 주체이론은 배제에서 출발하여 변화로 향한다. 양자는 공통적으로 지난 20세기의 정치적 전망과는 상당히 동떨어진 방향에서 주체(성)의 문제에 접근한다. 바디우에게 내재적 예외의 주체성은 존재의 지배질서 속에서 섬광과 같이 떠오르는 사건에서 출발하는 진리 과정 속에서 구축된다. 이 주체성은 상황을 변화시킬 수 있는 주된 동력으로서 법의 경계를 넘어 불가능한 것으로 금지된 욕망을 가능하게 하는 능동적인 주체이다. 진리의 운명은 이 주체의 끝나지 않는 실천에 달려있다. 이 주체가 없다면, 세계를 변화시키는 새로운 정치는 있을 수 없다. 아감벤은 예외화의 질서인 신성화 구조를 통해 어떻게 완전히 무력화된 벌거벗은 생명이 결정되는지를 보여준다. 그에게 서양 정치의 기본적인 전제가 되었던 벌거벗은 생명은 예외상태를 통해 결정된 수동적인 주체일 뿐이다. 아감벤에게 새로운 정치의 가능성은 벌거벗은 생명의 분리를 넘어 삶-의-형태로 나아가는 데 있다. 그것을 위해 요구되는 주체성이 바로 법과 법 외부의 경계를 말소하는 탈경계의 주체성이다.

영문 초록

Theories of subject as exception in Badiou and Agamben start from an exclusion by the State and the sovereignty and is oriented towards an evental change. The two philosophers approach the problem of subjectivity quite differently from the political perspective of the twentieth century. For Badiou, the subjectivity of the immanent exception is constructed in the process of truths which begin with the event that arises by taking issue with the ruling order of being. This subjectivity, as the principal force capable of transforming a situation, constitutes the active subject which makes possible the desire hitherto forbidden as impossible beyond the boundary. The fate of truth depends on the interminable practice of this subject. Agamben shows that through the structure of sacratio which also determines the order of exception, how the bare life, which has been completely emasculated, is determined within the territory of law. For him, bare life, which serves as an elementary presupposition, represents only a passive subject, bio-politically determined by a state of exception. The possibility of the new politics in Agamben comes from the advancement towards a form-of-life, far beyond the exclusion of bare life. The political subjectivity required for this change precisely depends upon that of the boundary-erasing which destroys the boundary between the law and its outside.
