국문 초록

본 논문은 스피노자의 사상 중에서도 주요한 종교철학을 그의 저서 『신학정치론』(Tractatus theologico-politicus)과 『에티카』(Ethica: ordine geometrico demonstrata)를 중심으로 논하고 있다. 그의 실체 사상을 통해 신이 어떻게 이해되는지, 그리고 신이 그리스도교의 신과 어떻게 다르며 그가 그리스도교의 신을 어떻게 비판하는지 고찰한다. 스피노자는 자연을 초월한 어떠한 실재도 인정하지 않음으로써 자연을 통합적인 유일한 실체로 인정한다. 때문에 그에 의하면 모든 것이 신 안에 있고, 신은 모든 것 안에 있다. 결국 신은 자연과 같으며 필연적인 인과성에 의해 움직일 뿐이다. 이러한 사상으로 인해 그리스도교의 신 개념 즉, 자연세계와 구별되는 초월적 존재로서 어떠한 목적성에 따라 인간세계에 개입하는 인간적 신은 부정된다. 또한 스피노자는 계시종교, 특히 그리스도교의 계시와 성경을 비판한다. 그에 의하면, 신의 계시라는 것은 인식론적으로 부적합한 인간의 자의적인 해석일 뿐이다. 성경의 문자들 역시 인간에게 사실적 진리를 전달하는 것이 아니라 도덕적 의미만을 갖고 있다. 그는 성경에서 도덕적 의미를 발췌하여 교리에 얽매이지 않는 새로운 보편종교(religio catholica)를 제안하는데, 그것에 따르면 신에 대한 순명과 타인에 대한 사랑이 인류가 추구해야 할 최고의 가치가 된다.

영문 초록

This study focused on Spinoza’s major religion philosophy from his book of “A Theologico-Political Treatise” and “The Ethics”. Through his substance idea, examined how God was understood, how Christian God was different from God and how he criticized Christian God Spinoza didn’t acknowledge any substance which surpassed nature; he acknowledged nature as the only integrated substance. So, according to him, everything is in God and God is in everything. After all, God is same as nature, and God only moves by inevitable causality. From this idea, new conception of Christianity, which personal God as a Supreme Being intervene in human world with certain purpose, was denied. Spinoza also criticized the revealed religion, especially Revelation and the Bible of Christianity. Spinoza thought God’s revelation is nothing but a human being’s voluntary interpretation, inadequate epistemology. The words in the Bible also did not deliver the factual truth but only had ethical meanings. He proposed new catholic religion (religio catholica) extracted moral meaning from the Bible, which didn’t bound by a catechism. According to that, the supreme value which human beings pursuit is the obedience to God and love neighbors.
