말레이시아 화인과 말레이인의 종족관계 조사 연구

국문 초록

말레이시아는 다종족·다문화·다종교 국가로, 말레이인·화인·인도인 등 다양한 종족집단으로 구성되어 있다. 말레이시아에는 약 640만 명의 화인이 정착하고 있으며, 이는 말레이시아 전체 인구의 24.6%를 차지한다. 말레이시아에서 화인과 말레이인은 상이한 언어·문화·종교로 인해 이질감이 증폭되어, 복합적인 종족관계를 형성하고 있다. 이 연구는 현지조사와 설문조사를 통해 화인과 말레이인의 종족관계 실태를 분석하였다. 연구결과, 현재 화인과 말레이인의 종족관계는 기존의 대립관계에서 점차 공존관계로 발전하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 우선, 말레이시아 화인은 원주민의 언어인 말레이어를 능통하게 구사하고, 말레이인의 역사, 문화, 전통, 관습을 잘 이해하고 있는 등 현지 문화를 적극 수용하고 있다. 다음, 말레이시아 화인과 말레이인은 친구로 지내는 등 평등한 사회관계를 유지하고 있으며, 필요할 때 서로 도움을 주고받는 등 비교적 조화로운 종족관계를 유지하고 있다. 마지막으로, 말레이시아 화인은 정치활동에 적극적으로 참여하고 있을 뿐만 아니라, 말레이인과의 정치협력을 강화하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 다시 말해, 1969년의 종족 유혈사태 이후 말레이시아 화인과 말레이인의 종족관계는 기존의 충돌 대립관계에서 점차 공존 관계로 발전하고 있다. 이러한 종족관계의 변화는 정부의 종족갈등 완화 정책, 화인의 적극적인 정치참여, 현지 문화와의 교류·융합에 의해 조성된 것이다.

영문 초록

Malaysia is a multi-ethnic, multicultural, multi-religious country with diverse ethnic groups such as Malay, Chinese, and Indian. There are about 6.4 million ethnic Chinese in Malaysia, accounting for 24.6% of Malaysia s total population. It amplifies heterogeneity and forms a complex ethnic relationship because of the different languages, cultures and religions in multi-ethnic * multicultural Country Malaysia. This study analyzes the ethnic relations of Chinese Malaysian and Malayne people through surveys and in - depth interviews. The result of this study shows that at present they are gradually developing into a coexistence relationship of ethnic ties between Chinese Malaysian and Malay. First of all, Chinese in Malaysian are fluent in the native language of Malay, they are familiar with the history, culture, traditions and customs of Malay people and actively accept local culture positively. Next Chinese Malaysian are friends with Malayne and maintain a relatively harmonious social relationship such as helping each other when needed. Finally, Chinese Malaysians and Malayne are actively pursuing political cooperation. In other words, Since the 1969 riots, the tribal relationship of Chinese Malaysian and Malayne is gradually evolving into a coexistence relationship from conflicting relationship. This change in ethnic relations is created by the government s policy of alleviating ethnic conflicts, the active political participation of ethnic Chinese, and the exchange and fusion of ethnic Chinese culture.
