대부도 및 제부도의 땅이름에 관한 조사연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 대부도(안산시 대부동)와 제부도(화성군 서신면 제부리)에 있는 땅이름을 채집, 분석ㆍ연구한 것이다. 땅이름 연구는 무엇보다 세밀한 자료의 채집에서 시작된다. 이를 위해 연구자는 필요한 각종 문헌을 수집ㆍ참고하였을 뿐만 아니라, 여러차례 직접 답사하고 토박이 노인들을 만나는가 하면, 산에도 오르고 하여 땅이름을 채집하는데 상당한 노력을 기울였다. 그 결과 대부도 429개(90.9%) 제부도 43개(9.1%) 등 모두 472개의 땅이름이 채집되었다. 채집된 땅이름의 정리에 있어서, 2장에서는 대부도와 제부도 별로 땅이름을 27개 항목에 따라 분류하여 실태를 파악하고, 제3장에서는 이를 다시 유래적 측면과 계통적 측면으로 재분류하여 땅이름의 내력과 말의 쓰임을 가려 보는 것으로 하였다. 땅이름을 살펴보면, 마을 이름이 전체의 20.0%로 제일 많고, 다음이 산 이름 10.2%, 섬 이름 8.9%, 바위이름 8.9%의 순으로 많게 나타났다. 특히 대부도에서는 섬 이름이 많이 발견되었고, 놀랍게도 우물 또는 약수터이름이 많이 채집되었으며, 제부도에서는 섬의 크기에 비해 길 이름이 제일 많이 채집되었는 데 이러한 것들은 아주 특이한 현상이라 하지 않을 수 없다. 대부도 및 제부도의 땅이름을 유래적 측면에서 살펴보면, 위치에 따라서 생겨난 땅이름이 전체의 27.5%로서 가장 많고, 다음 모양에서 비롯된 것이 20.1%, 관념적인 것에서 생겨난 땅이름이 9.7%로 각각 많게 나타났다. 다음 계통적 측면에서 분류해 보면, 토박이말이 전체의 50.0%로 가장 많았고 그 다음이 섞임말 34.1%, 한자말 15.9%로 나타났다. 이러한 순서는 전국적인 현상으로 새삼스러울 것은 없겠으나 다른 지역에 비해 토박이말이 50.0%나 될 정도로 많이 나타났다는 것은 매우 특징적인 현상으로 보아진다. 그러므로 앞으로 이 지역에서 행정상 이유로나 그 밖의 이유로 새로운 땅이름을 지어 쓰게 될 때에는 이러한 토박이말 땅이름을 잘 활용하여 쓰기를 바라는 마음 간절하다.

영문 초록

This study deals with the names of the various places, which now belong in the Taebu-do and Chebu-do district. The salient character of this study lies in that it is based on the abundant and detailed materials. The author has collected many kinds of historical books and has incorporated them into this study. He has visited in person the places and has had direct interviews with the oldest inhabitants of the places. These efforts of the author has resulted in the collection of 472(429; Taebu-do, 43; Chebu-do) place names. This study can be summarized as follows : The first chapter is an introductory description. The second chapter classifies the names of places according to the 27 conceptual categories. The third chapter intends to present the history and uses of the names of places. And this chapter classifies the names of places from the perspective of genetical history as well as from the etymological perspective. Viewed from the perspective of genetical history : 27.5% of all the names of places are made according to their natural location. 20.1% of all the names of places came into being according to their natural form and appearance. 9.7% of all the names of places are coined according to the imagination of the inhabitants. Viewed from the etymological perspective : 50.0% of all the names originated from Korean. 34.1% of all the names adopted the combined form of chinese characters and korean language. 15.9% of all the names derived from chinese characters. In conclusion the author argues that in the future the names of places of Taebu-do and Chebu-do should be coined based on the korean language.
