국문 초록

農巖 金昌協은 名家 출신 관료, 隱者, 문장가, 철학자, 산림으로 다양하게 변신한 인물이었다. 그의 다양한 모습은 당대에는 일관해서 파악하는 것이 자연스러웠다. 그러나 현대의 연구자는 그의 특정한 한 면모만을 다루고 있기에 그는 분절적으로 파악된다. 따라서 다양한 영역에서의 활동을 통일적으로 연결하는 인식이 필요하다. 17세기 후반 조선에서는 換局이란 급격한 정치 변동이 자주 일어났다. 김창협은 노론이 주장한 의리관이 역사적 정당성을 지니고 있으므로 노론이 정국의 주도권을 가져야한다는 기존 인식을 고수했지만, 개인이 처한 상황의 특수성을 또한 인정하였다. 상황에 대한 고려는 대청 인식에서도 마찬가지였다. 그는 북벌 의지를 여전히 가졌지만 정보와 문물의 수용을 또한 강조하였다. 의리의 규범성과 상황 용인 사이에서 적절한 도리를 찾는 노력이 김창협의 다양한 면모를 확인하는 끈이다. 그는 외면상 出仕와 脫俗을 오갔다. 그러나 그에게 탈속과 출사는 부차적이었으며 본질은 修身에 기초한 天理의 실현이었다. 따라서 그의 탈속은 世道와 風俗의 敎化를 간접적으로 돕는다는 의미를 지녔다. 그 같은 태도는 자연과 인간을 분리하지 않고 자연과 인간, 탈속과 속세를 통합적으로 사고하는 인식으로 발전하였다. 김창협의 은거와 의리 정신, 문학과 철학은 천리의 실현이라는 목적 아래 일관되게 정열해 있었다. 그 노력은 당시의 사유 흐름에서 꽤나 유의미하였다. 상황 긍정을 수용한 그의 사고는 의리 규범의 전일함에 대한 균열을 야기하였기 때문이었다. 그것은 時宜를 중시하는 태도를 낳았고 훗날 그의 영향 아래에 있었던 서울의 노론 학자들은 삶에 대한 선택의 자유를 넓히게 되었다.

영문 초록

NongAm/農嚴 Kim, Chang-Hyup/金昌協 was a politician, hermit, great writer, phiolsopher, and ideologue. In those days, it was natural to recognize his diverse aspects coherent. But now he is recognized disconnectedly because modem researchers focus their eyes on his specific aspect. So now we need to restructure his life and activities from all angles. During the latter half of the 17th century, Hwan-guk(換局, a sudden power change) occurred often in Chosun. Kim had a conservative view that Noron/老論 party had a righteousness so they had to take the hegemony against other political parties. But he had a subtle difference. He thought the principle remained firm in public region, but one s special situation was a little changeable. When we investigate his understanding of Qing, consideration for specific situation becomes clearer. He had a strong will for Bukbeol (北代, a Northern Subjugation) like his foregoers, but he emphasized accepting information and products that suggest change. Searching the middlecourse between rigor righteousness and personal tolerence is the link which connects Kim’s diverse aspects. His life transformed from a politician to hermit outwardly. But social acts and retirement was only a second concern, the essence was to realize the law of nature. So his retirement consummated public morals and mundane world s enlightment indirectly. Such a reconition developed, not separating human from nature, considering unitedly human and nature, unworldliness and mundane world. Kim s retirement and the concept of righteousness, literature and philosophical writings arranged consistently for the relization the natural law. His exertion was deeply significant in the current of the times. Because his thought which tolerated individudal’s situations caused split of the consistency of righteousness. It launched the attitude that valued much of well-timed moderation, and, after his death, his disciples who were the Noron scholars lived in Seoul brodened their freedom of thinking and radius of action.
