최근 개발된 국내외 무궁화 신품종 개발 현황

국문 초록

최근 20년 동안 무궁화 품종 육성은 가장 활발하였으며 초창기 도입육종과 선발육종이 대부분을 차지하였으나 최근에는 품종간 교배육종, 종간교잡육종, 돌연변이육종 등 육종방법이 다양하게 진화되어 왔다. 국내에서 20년간 육성된 품종은 품종간 교배육종을 통해 51품종, 종간교잡육종을 통해 21품종, 돌연변이육종을 통해 7품종, 선발육종을 통해 6품종 등이 있으며, 품종보호등록을 실시하여 권리를 보호받고 있다. 품종간 교배육종은 성균관대학교 12품종, 농촌진흥청 13품종, 산림청 3품종, 무궁화와참나리연구소 16품종 등을 각각 품종보호등록을 실시하였다. 최근 20년 동안 한국원자력연구소에서 방사선 동위원소를 이용한 돌연변이 육종을 통해 ‘백설’, ‘대광’, ‘선녀’, ‘창해’, ‘꼬마’, ‘다솜’ 등을 육성하였으며, 성균관대에서는 접목 돌연변이를 통해 ‘안동’을 육성하였다. 2000년 이후 미국에서 식물특허를 취득한 무궁화 신품종은 총 11품종으로 자연방임수분된 실생묘에서 선발육종으로 육성된 품종은 ‘Marina’, ‘Mathilde’, ‘Notwoodone’, ‘Notwoodtwo’ 등이 있으며, 품종간 교배육종으로 육성된 품종은 ‘Floru’, ‘DVPazurri’, ‘Notwoodthree’ 등이었다. 또한 2006년 Jodi 는 돌연변이육종으로 육성되었으며 ‘Antong Two’ 역시 접목돌연변이로 선발되어 식물특허를 받았다. 2006년 ‘Bricutts’와 2009년 ‘America Irene Scott’ 등은 아조변이로 선발된 품종으로 식물특허를 획득하였다. 또한 2013년 미국 및 캐나다에 특허출원 및 상표등록을 실시한 SHIMRV24 , SHIMCR1 등이 있다. 캐나다에서 식물특허 및 상표등록을 실시한 무궁화 신품종으로 ‘Carpa’, ‘Notwoodthree’, ‘DVPazurri’, ‘Antong Two’, ‘America Irene Scott’ 등이 있으며, 2013년에는 국내에서 육성된 ‘병화’(‘SHIMRV24’)와 ‘종무’(‘SHIMCR1’) 역시 캐나다에 식물 특허 및 상표 출원을 실시하였다.

영문 초록

This study was carried out to investigate domestic and international development of new cultivars of Rose of Sharon(Hibiscus syriacus L.) as Korean national flower. The obtained results were as followed; 89 new cultivars of H. syriacus were obtained plant variety protection right in Korea. 54 new cultivars such as Shimsan , Hwanhee , and Donghae originated from crossing of cultivars of Hibiscus syriacus. 21 new cultivars such as Arirang , Baecku , and ‘Sukim were selected by Interspecific crossing. In addition, new cultivars were developed by mutation such as γ-ray Irradiated Population and open pollination of H. syriacus cultivars. There were 11 new cultivars of H. syriacus in USA. ‘Marina’, ‘Mathilde’, ‘Notwoodone’, and ‘Notwoodtwo’ originated from open-pollinations of various unidentified seedling selections H. syriacus cultivar. ‘Floru’, ‘DVPazurri’, ‘Notwoodthree’ originated from crossing of cultivars of H. syriacus. H. syriacus ‘Jodi’ is a spontaneous, genetic mutation from H. syriacus ‘Diana’. The new Antong Two is a naturally-occurring branch mutation of an unnamed selection of H. syriacus , not patented. The cultivar Antong Two was discovered and selected by the Inventor within a population of plants of the parent selection in a controlled environment in Andong Provence, South Korea in 1995. The new ‘Bricutts’ was a naturally-occurring branch mutation of the H. syriacus cultivar Notwoodone in 2006. There were ‘Carpa , ‘Notwoodthree’, ‘DVPazurri’, ‘Antong Two’, ‘America Irene Scott’, ’SHIMRV24 , and ’SHIMCR1 in Canada. The variety Carpa was discovered in Strathroy, Ontario in 2000, as a branch mutation of Hibiscus syriacus Ardens . Notwoodthree originated from a controlled cross made during the summer of 2001 in Lynn, United Kingdom. DVPazurri originated from a controlled cross between the variety Oiseau Bleu as the female parent and an unnamed chromosome doubled seedling as the male parent in the summer of 2000 in Melle, Belgium. America Irene Scott was discovered and developed by the breeder, Sharon Gerlt, in Independence, Missouri, USA, in the summer of 2001. In addition, ’SHIMRV24 and ’SHIMCR1 were applicated plant patent in 2013.
