몰도바의 국가정체성과 자기이해 -소비에트 이후 시기를 중심으로-

국문 초록

오늘날 몰도바공화국은 지리적으로 19세기 초 이후 루마니아인들의 역사적 영토에서 러시아로 이양된 곳으로서 이곳의 국경은 소위 바사라비아로 불리는 곳과 거의 일치한다. 이곳은 이후 약 200년간 러시아화, 루마니아화, 소비에트화, 몰도바화 등 다양한 정책적 영향에 의한 변화를 겪게 되며 이것은 다문화적 양상의 국가 정체성과 주민들의 자기이해에 영향을 미치는 복합적 요인으로 작용하게 된다. 이러한 역사적 배경에서 볼 때 과연 오늘날 몰도바의 국가적 정체성의 지향점과 몰도바인들의 자기이해는 어떠한 것인가 대한 다양한 의문이 제기되어왔 다. 본고에서는 오늘날 몰도바공화국이 탄생하게 되는 간략한 역사적 배경과 함께 1991년 독립이후의 상황에 초점을 맞추어 지난 사반세기 동안 진행된, 이 지역의 그 국가적 정체성의 형성에 있어서 큰 두 가지 흐름이라 할 수 있는 정치적 경향인 루마니아주의와 몰도바주의에 대해서 살펴보고 이 지역 국민들의 자기이 해에 대해서 최근의 인구센서스 및 기타 통계자료를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 현 시점에서 볼 때 몰도바 정치권이 지향하는 국가적 정체성과 일반 시민들의 자기이 해에는 차이가 있는 것으로 보인다. 정치권의 국가적 정체성의 지향점은 서구화 이며 이는 유럽연합가입이라는 방법을 통해서 구체화 되는 것이라 할 수 있다. 반면 일반 시민들의 자기이해는 루마니아도, 유럽도, 러시아도 아닌 몰도바라는 인식이 강하게 퍼져있는 것으로 보인다.

영문 초록

The Republic of Moldova is situated in a land which was ceded from Romanian s historical territory to Russia since the early nineteenth century, and today its borders are almost coinciding with the so-called Bessarabia. Moldovans in this region have experienced various political influences such as Russification, Romanization, Sovietization, and Moldovanization for about 200 years, which were complex factors influencing the national identities of the multicultural aspect and the people s self-consciousness. From these historical backgrounds, various questions have been asked about what the current national identities of Moldova and the self-consciousness of the Moldovans are. With the brief historical background of the birth of the Republic of Moldova, this paper examines Romanianism and Moldovanism as two major political tendencies in the formation of the national identity of the region over the past quarter century and also examines the recent population census and statistical data to check the self-consciousness of the people of this region. It seems that there is a difference between the national identity being pursued by Moldovan political leadership and the self-consciousness of ordinary citizens. The intention of political leadership in constitution of national identity is based on westernization, which is embodied in the way of joining the European Union. On the other hand, the self-consciousness of ordinary citizens seems to be inclined strongly that they belong to independent Moldova, not Romania, Europe or Russia.
