This study was intended to re-establish a correlation between the animation and the children art and to examine the educational function and direction of animation through theoretical consideration, and to present the utilization plan as the data of contents development for children’s art education from the realistic aspect. According to a fast development of visual media and a diversity of contents by conversion into the video informatization era using a computer, the digital animation was rapidly growing and was deeply involved in our daily life. Because the animation is closely related to a historical and cultural emotion, it has been considerably developed in terms of the technique or contents in a film, advertisement, game and education fields. Also, it has firmed its position as one genre. In particular, it has the large effect of education because its media-based characteristic called ‘Animation’ is strong. Among them, the animation is one of the important factors which have the absolute influence on children. In particular, because contents which are composed of visual and acoustic forms and have the time and space factor are connected with psychological characteristics of children development phase, it has been naturally and frequently utilized even in the artistic expression technique. The ego of children is formed by learning by external environment. Being the part of daily life, the animation has the biggest effect. Accordingly, the animation can give a dream and hope to children with a vivid movement through characters and can control children’s behavior and emotion because it has all the visual movement and acoustic factors for children who start to recognize an object’s form or picture. Animation has very close relationship with children emotionally and considerably affects them. Therefore, the animation has the high preference in the contents development for children education, and such the utilization of education contents will improve children’s concentration and will make the excellent learning effect. Diverse techniques apply in the animation. There are the typical technique’s cell animation, digital animation using the computer, puppet animation, flash animation, clay animation and others. Because of the diversity of production methods, it has many advantages in producing children’s art contents and it can educate children by easily approaching them. However, if it is difficult for children to understand the animation and children doesn’t have interests in the animation even though it has the good education effect and excellent contents, it will be meaningful as the education contents. Because the children’s art is an expression of their feeling and emotions, the art education contents program which can maximize and accelerate children’s imagination not a simple art activity must be provided through creative art activities and free self-expression by developing the new education contents against the fixed concept and the existing forms. When it applies to the art education through the art education contents which enable children to have interests in arts and to participate in the art play, it will seem to be very helpful for the diversity and specialty of contents.
