근대기독교신문과계몽사상 : 七一雜報를중심으로

국문 초록

일본 최초의 기독교신문 '칠일잡보'(七一雑ñ)는 1880년 창간된 기독교계 종합잡지'리쿠고잡지'(六合雑誌)의 명성에 눌려 그동안 그 가치를 부분적으로 밖에 인정받지 못했다. 그러다가1986년도 시사대학에서 수행한 공동연구를 통해 최초의 기독교 계정기간행물로서 이른바 기독교계 저널리즘의“원천” 혹은“씨앗”으로 자리매김 되었다. 그리고'칠일잡보'의 발행기간중전기에는개화론이나시사, 해외사정등의 기사가 많았던 반면, 후기에는 교의에 관한 변증 등 복음전도를 위한 내용으로 신문색채가 바뀌었다는 점, 한편으로는 서로 다른성격의글이 혼재되어있었다는 점이 선행연구에서 지적되어왔다. 그러나 본고에서는 근대 일본 신문의 역사에 등장하는 “대신문”('蜷Vｷ)과 “소신문”(小新ｷ)이라는 이중구조를 가지고 '칠일잡보' 지면의 형식변화를 살펴보고자 했다. 즉 칠일잡보의 발행기가 근대 일본에서 이른바 ‘정론(政論) 위주의 대신문과 오락 위주의 소신문’이라는 서로 다른 두 성격의 신문이 공존하던 시기인 것에 주목하여 신문의 두 가지 성격이 교차하는 양상을 통해 칠일잡보의 계몽사상과 편집방침의 변화를 설명한것이다. 그리고 그러한 지면변화내용을 일반 신문과 비교하였다. 즉 근대일본에서 일반신문의 발달역사는 대신문과 소신문의 이중구조속에서 대중신문으로 통합되는 방향으로 진행된 것과는 반대로, '칠일잡보'는 대신문과 소신문의 특징을 절충하여 출발했다가 대신문과 소신문의 역할분할로 진행되었다는점을 밝힘으로써, 이것을 일본기독교가 갖는 특징이자 한계로 파악했다.

영문 초록

Shichiichi Zappo, the first Christian newspaper in Japan, had been recognized for its value only partially under the shadow of Rikugo Zasshi, an all-around Christian magazine created in 1880. A joint study at Doshisha University in 1986, however, helped the newspaper establish its position as the “origin” or “seed” of so-called Christian journalism as the first regular Christian publication in Japan. Under the goal of analyzing the paper changes of Shichiichi Zappo, this study set out to explain changes to the newspaper form in the dual structure of “Oshinbun” and “Koshinbun” in the history of modern Japanese newspapers. Paying attention to the fact that the newspaper was published during the coexistence of two different types of newspapers, which were “Oshinbun based on reasonable arguments” and “Koshinbun based on entertainment,” in modern Japan, the investigator explained the changes to the nature and publication intention of the newspaper through the crossing patterns of the two types. Those changes to its paper were then compared with those of general newspapers. It was highlighted that Shichiichi Zappo started by negotiating between Oshinbun and Koshinbun in their characteristics and moved toward the division of roles between them in opposition to general newspapers, which were integrated into popular newspapers in the dual structure of Oshinbun and Koshinbun, which reflects the characteristics and limitations of Japanese Christianity.
