가톨릭 사회교리에 비추어 본 생명과 건강 : 인간의 존엄성, 공동선, 연대성과 보조성을 중심으로

국문 초록

가톨릭교회의 사회교리는 인간의 구원이라는 목적을 지닌 교회가 정의와 사랑의 실천이라는 복음의 메시지에 근거하여 우리가 살아가는 시대의 표징을 해석하고, 여기서 생겨나는 다양한 사회 문제들을 신자 개개인이 어떻게 식별, 판단하고 행동해야 하는지 그 원리와 지침을 정리한 내용이다. 건강과 생명을 다루는 영역에서도 신자들은 올바른 윤리적인 판단을 내리기 위해 사회교리의 기본 원리들을 잘 배우고 익히는것은 중요하다. 사회교리는 신앙과 이성의 온전한 진리를 바탕으로 인간의 존엄성, 공동선, 연대성, 보조성의 네 가지 원리들을 제시한다. 이 네 가지 원리들은 구원의 길로 불림 받은 인간이 사회 안에서 더불어 살아가면서 자기완성에 이루도록 서로 협력하되 각자의 자율성과 창의성을 존중하며 진리와 자유와 정의의 삶을 살아가도록 이끄는 원리들이다. 구체적으로 사회교리는 인간은 누구나 하느님의 모습을 닮은 존귀한 생명임을 인식하고 자신과 이웃, 특히 자기 방어를 하기 어려울 정도로 연약한 이들의 생명권을 비롯한 인간으로서 누려야 할 기본적인 권리를 보장하도록 촉구한다. 낙태와 안락사는 인간 생명에 대한 가장 직접적이고도 중대한 공격이며 인간의 존엄성을 훼손하는 행위이다. 차별과 불평등 역시 인간의 존엄성과 함께 심리적 육체적 건강에서 심각한 손상을 입히는 사회적 악으로서 극복해야 할 대상이다. 국가는 공동선의 실현을 위해 존재하며 입법 활동과 정책 추진을 통해 인간이 자기완성을 추구하며 살아갈 수 있도록 기본적 권리들을 보장할 책임이 있다. 인간은 누구나 서로에 대한 책임이 있으며, 특히 부유한 나라는 가난하고 어려운 처지에 있는 이웃의 건강과 생명을 돕기 위한 나눔과 협력이 요구된다. 또한 빈곤국가의 경제성장과 질병을 퇴치하기 위한 원조도 중요하지만 그들이 스스로 일어설 수 있도록 지혜롭게 도와야 한다. 가톨릭 사회교리의 결론은 '사랑의 문명'을 건설하자는 것이다. 그리스도의 메시지의 핵심 역시 사랑의 실천이다. 인간의 생명과 건강문제 역시 인간이 인간답게 살아가기 위해 요구되는 윤리적 영역 안에 있다. 사회교리의 원리들 안에 담겨있는 사랑의 정신을 잘 실천한다면 인류는 보다 건강하고 더 충만한 삶을 함께 누릴 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The social doctrines of the Catholic Church provide the principles and instructions which help the Church to interpret the signs of the time using the Gospel messages of justice and peace, and the Church members to learn how to discern, judge, and tack actin against the various social issues on the basis of the interpretation of the signs of the time. To make right decisions in the area of health and life also, it is essential for the faithful to learn and practice the basic principles of the Catholic social doctrines. The social doctrines suggest four major principles such as human dignity, common good, solidarity, and subsidiarity. These principles lead people who are called to the way of salvation into living the life of harmony in the society and cooperating each other in gaining self-realization while leading them to respect each one's autonomy and creativity, and to the life of truth, justice, and peace. Specifically the social doctrines urge us to realize that any human being, who is the image of God, is sacred and to guarantee the basic rights of the weakest as a human being who lack of the ability to defend themselves including the right of life. Abortion and euthanasia are direct and serious attacks to human life and acts of damaging human dignity. Discrimination and inequality are also a kind of social evil which should be overcome because they seriously damage the psychological and physical health as well as human dignity. The nation exists to realize the common good and has a responsibility to safeguard the basic rights through legislative acts and policy making in order for people to seek self-realization. While all the human beings are responsible to one another, especially rich countries are required to provide sharing and cooperation for poor countries which suffer troubles in the matter of health and life. While assistance to poor countries for economic development and disease control is important, it is wiser to help them to stand by themselves. The conclusion of the Catholic social doctrines is the construction of 'the civilization of love'. The core of the message of Jesus Christ is also practicing love. The issues of human life and health lie in the area of ethics which needs for human beings to live a genuine human life. If we practice the sprit of love out of the teaching of the social doctrines, we humans would enjoy more healthy and more fulfilling life together.
