The purpose of this study is to predict the impact of change in the pollutant loading and flowrate upon the water quality of Daechong Reservoir by WASP5/ EUTRO5 in order to suggest quality management alternatives. The case study on the nonpoint source loading of the Chongju Water Intake Tower Region by GIS was applied to the identification of the nonpoint loading. The 50% increase (decrease) of pollutant loading has caused that of T-N concentration by 0.14-0.29 ㎎/ℓ under the flowrate of 50 ㎥/sec, 0.12-0.16 mg/ℓ under the flowrate of 120 ㎥/sec, 0.03-0.05 ㎎/ℓ under the flowrate of 500 ㎥/sec ; and that of T-P concentration by 0.005-0.011 mg/ℓ, 0.004-0.006 ㎎/ℓ, 0.001-0.002 ㎎/ℓ under the flowrate 50 ㎥/sec, 120 ㎥/sec, 500 ㎥/sec ; and that of CBOD concentration by 0.24-0.37 ㎎/ℓ. 0.08-0.18㎎/ℓ, 0.03-0.06 ㎎/ℓ under the flowrate of 50 ㎥/sec, 120 ㎥/sec, 500 ㎥/sec. But the ratio of DO change by the change of pollutant loading was relatively small. In this study, the environmental carrying is defined as the pollutant loading which could result in the third grade water quality level of environmental standards. Eventhough the loading of T-N decrease to the half of present loading, the fifth grade water quality level could not be achieved. Therefore the T-N environmental carrying capacity of Daechong Reservoir is far below the half of present loading. If the loading of T-P decrease to the half of present, the fourth grade water quality level could not be achieved. So the T-P environmental carrying of Daechong Reservoir is under the half of present loading. If the loading of CBOD decrease to the half of present during dry season(under the flowrate of 50㎥/sec), the second grade water quality level could be achieved. Eventhough the loading of CBOD increase twice, the second grade water quality level could be possible. So the present CBOD loading is below the environmental carrying capacity. The above information could be used to the decision of the kind, characteristics, location, and size of the new development project in the surrounding region of Daechong Reservoir.
