영문 초록

This paper examined issues of regional development through the casino industry with a discussive approach. The casino industry is among the most prohibited markets in Korea, yet regional scientists have paid it little attention. However, since the opening of the casino in ]ungsun area which was the first to permit entering of domestic Korean, many local governments are now trying to introduce the gambling industries such as horse racing, cycle racing and casinos to promote the regional economy. In addition, the introduction of the five-days work week in Korea increased involvement and consumption on the leasure and entertainment services. Facing such changes from the industrial to the post-industrial society, this paper suggests not merely observing the casino industry with a prohibited viewpoint, but carefully reviewing its social and economic impacts of the casino industry with a more matured perspective.
