영문 초록

This study aims to find principal factors which have leaded the growth of city in Korea. Multiple Regression Analysis being applied to the relevant data of the 32 cities since 1970, the following results are obtained: 1) The rapid growth of the metropolis, such as Seoul, Pusan, Taegu, and Intcheon, seems to have been resulted from the compounding effect of diverse growth factors. But pointing out the principal among them, economic and education factors may be those; 2) In the big cities such as Kwangju, Taejon, and Ulsan, the leading factors tend to be differentiated according to the characteristics of city except the common education factor. That is to say, while economic factor is outstanding is contributing to the growth of Ulsan, social and policy factors are notable in Taejon, and so medical and public service factors are in Kwangju; 3) The satellite cities of Seoul such as Suwon and Eujeongbu have grown mainly by the influence of economic factor; 4) In the middle size cities, the growth characteristic tends to be split by economic factor. While the cities such as Wonju, Tcheongju, Yeosu, Pohang, and Masan have affected much by economic factor, not the other cities such as Jeonju, Kunsan, Iri, Mokpo, and Jiuju. But both are equal in the dependence on education factor.
