배심원 토론 모형에 기반을 둔 대학 토론 교육 방안

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 교차조사식 토론 방식이 지닌 토론 모형의 문제점을 살펴보고, 이에 대한 대안으로 배심원 토론 모형에 기반을 둔 대학 토론 교육방안을 제시하는 것이다. 교차조사식 토론 모형의 특징은 교차조사라는 독특한 형식을 지니며, 양측 입장에게 동등한 발언 기회를 제공한다는 점이다. 그러나 교차조사식 토론은 경쟁형 구도, 학생들의 토론 규칙 이해의 어려움, 교차조사에 대한 학생 이해 부족, 전체 학생의 참여 유도 부족 등의 문제를 지닌다. 반면 이 연구에서 제안하는 배심원 토론 모형의 특징은 토론 절차와 배심 절차로 구성되어 있다는 점이다. 배심원 토론 모형은 배심원 다수결 평의과정을 통해 협의 과정을 이끌어 낸다는 점, 사전 자료 공유를 통한 토론 내실화, 배심원제를 통한 모든 학생들의 참여 유도 등의 장점을 지닌다. 이러한 배심원 토론 모형은 기존의 교차조사식 토론 모형의 단점을 보완함으로써 효과적인 토론 교육이 이루어질 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the problems of the debate model belonging to the cross-examination debate method and as a counterproposal, to suggest the jury debate model. The characteristics of the cross-examination are the unique type of cross-examination, and the provision of the equal speaking chance to each side. However, the cross-examination debate has the problems of its competing structure, the necessity of separate education to understand rules, the insufficiency of understanding students, and that of whole students’ participation invitation. On the other hand, the characteristic of the jury debate model suggested by this study is that it is composed of debate procedure and jury procedure. The jury debate model has the merits of drawing discussion process through the jury majority discussion process, making discussion substantial through prior data sharing, and inviting all students’ participation through the jury system. This jury debate model is expected to become an effective debate education by supplementing the existing cross-examination debate model.
