중학교 특수학급 교사의고등학교 진학지도 실태 및 지원 요구 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구는 중학교에서 고등학교로의 성공적인 전환을 위한 실질적인 진학지도 및 지원 방안을 모색하고자 중학교 특수학급 교사들의 고등학교 진학지도 실태 및 지원 요구를 조사하였다. 이를 위해 서울시 중학교 특수학급에 재직 중인 총 284명의 특수교사에게 설문지를 배부하였으며, 회수된 설문지 중 최종 146부의 설문지에 대해 고등학교 진학지도 및 지원 실태, 진학지도의 어려움 및 지원 요구를 분석하였다. 그 결과 고등학교 진학지도 및 지원 실태와 관련하여 중학교 특수학급에 재학 중인 대다수의 학생들이 일반 고등학교에 진학하고 있는 것으로 보고되었으며, 정보수집 출처로는 교육청 공문을, 장애학생 및 부모 지원 방법으로는 학부모 개별 면담 및 상담을, 고교 선택 및 추천 기준으로는 특수학급이 있는 학교를, 고등학교에서 요구하는 적응기술로는 기본생활기술을 특수교사들이 가장 중요하게 여기는 것으로 나타났다. 진학지도와 관련된 어려움과 지원 요구로는 고등학교 교사들과의 교류 부족과 다양한 유형의 고등학교에 특수학급 확충에 대한 항목이 각각 가장 높게 나타났다. 나아가 변인별 특성에 따른 집단 간 차이를 분석한 결과 특수학급 수와 교직경력, 고등학교 진학지도 경험 유무에 따라 진학지도 관련 어려움 및 지원 요구, 고등학교로의 전환지원 프로그램 필요성에 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과를 토대로 고등학교 진학을 앞둔 장애학생을 위한 실질적인 진학지도 및 지원 방안을 모색하고 향후 관련 연구의 활성화를 위해 다음과 같은 제언을 제시하였다: 1) 고등학교 추천 및 선택 기준에 대한 구체적인 정보 및 지침 제공, 2) 고등학교 진학 준비를 위한 기본생활기술 및 학업관련 기술의 조화, 3) 다양한 고등학교의 특수학급 확충 및 특성화된 특수학급 운영, 4) 특수교사 간 멘토링 및 교류 활성화를 통한 역량 강화.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate current status of educational guidance and support needs of middle school special educators for transitioning students with disabilities from middle to high school. For this study, a survey questionnaire was distributed to 284 middle school spacial educators in Seoul and a total of 146 surveys were analyzed among the returned surveys. The results indicated that, in terms of current status of educational guidance, most of middle school students with disabilities went on to high schools, and official documents from school districts as a information source, and personal counseling with parents of students with disabilities as a support option were the most frequently used by special education teachers. Also, the teachers perceived schools, which had a special education classroom, as the most important criteria for appropriate high schools for students with disabilities, and basic daily living skills as the most important adaptive skills needed in high schools. When it comes to difficulties and support needs regarding educational guidance, a lack of interaction among special education teachers in different school levels and establishing special education classrooms in various types of high schools were perceived as the most difficult and needed, respectively. Finally, there were significant differences between groups across the number of special education classrooms, teaching years, and experiences of educational guidance in difficulties and support needs related to educational guidance, and perceived necessity of transition programs for moving from middle to high school. Based on the results, several implications were suggested to provide practical ways for educational guidance and transition supports along with relevant research directions as follows: (1) providing detailed information and guidelines regarding criteria for choosing appropriate high schools, (2) striking a balance between teaching daily living skills and academic skills, (3) establishing special education classrooms in various types of high schools and managing specialized special education classrooms, and (4) enhancing teachers’ competencies by encouraging mentoring and active interaction among special educators.
