국문 초록

본 연구는 두 가지의 의미 즉 재배와 문화를 내포하고 있는 culture에 대한 인식에서 출발했다. <식물과 문화> 교과목 프로그램을 구성할 때 가장 중점을 두었던 점은 ‘plants’ 과 ‘culture’라는 두 단어의 관계에 있었다. 현대사회에서 식물이라는 유형의 생명개체들의 재배(culture)와 무형의 다양한 문화(culture)의 상관관계의 밀접함에 대해서 학생들에게 어떻게 흥미롭게 다가가게 할 것인가에 많은 비중을 두었다. 인간의 의미 있는 문화적 삶에 은유적으로 사용되고 있는 다윈의 도태, 선택, 생존경쟁과 같은 몇 몇 기초개념 이론들에서 보듯이 증대하고 있는 자연과 문화의 연계성에 대한 관심과 더불어 문화현상을 재조명할 수 있는 효과적인 강의로 나아가기 위한 목표를 설정하였다. 과학인문학자인 브뤼노 라투르(Latour, 2009)는 근대주의에서는 ‘인간’으로 규정되면 모든 권리가 부여되어 정치나 윤리의 영역의 주체가 되고, 반면 ‘비인간’ 사물로 규정되면 모든 권리가 박탈되어 과학의 영역으로 간주된다고 지적하였다. 이러한 주장에 대하여 특히 생태학적 측면에서는 많은 논의가 있고, 자연과학과 인문사회학의 융합 연구가 실행되고 있으며, 그에 따른 우수한 성과가 주목받고 있다. 또한 자연과 문화의 연계성에 대한 관심은 과학기술학자이건 인문학자, 사회과학자 그리고 자연과학학자인건 간에 공통적으로 나날이 증가하고 있다. 이러한 시대적 요구를 기반으로 한 학제간 통합교과목 개발을 통해 학생들은 시대의 변화와 함께 개인적, 집단적, 국가적, 세계적 문화의 변화 발전과정을 총체적으로 파악하는 능력을 배양할 수 있을 것이며, 인문학적 사유를 습득할 수 있는 기회를 직접체험하게 될 것이다. 나아가 학생들은 현재의 다양한 문화현상을 분석, 해석할 수 있게 되어 미래의 개척에 능동적으로 대처할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This analysis began from the perception of Culture, which contains two meanings: Cultivation and culture. When we arranged the course on , we focused on the relationship between the two words, ‘plants’ and ‘cultures’. We placed high importance on how to approach students in an interesting way explain the close correlation between tangible culture of living organisms and intangible culture in modern society. As Charles Darwin’s basic concept of elimination, selection, and survival of fittest were metaphorically referred to in meaningful human life, we aimed at an effective course to review cultural phenomenon including the growing interest on the connection between nature and culture. Bruno Latour a literati scientist, indicated that if one is defined as a ‘human’ in modernism, it becomes a subject to politics or ethics with all rights granted, while if one is defined as ‘non-human’ it will be deprived of rights and regarded as an area of science. Related to such argument, there have been many discussions especially on ecological side, and excellent achievements have been made on integrated analysis between natural science and humanities and social scientist. Also, there have been growing interests on the connection between nature and culture, commonly among scientific technician, humanities scholars, political scientists, and even natural scientists. Through the development of interdisciplinary integrated courses based on such need of the times, students can cultivate their ability to understand the changes of the world as well as the procedures of changes and developments of personal, collective, national, and global culture in general. In addition, they can attain humanistic thinking. Furthermore, having ability to analyze and understand different cultural phenomenon, they will be able to actively deal with the future developments.
