가부장적 권력의 균열, 그 틈새로 드러난 여성의 목소리

국문 초록

본 연구는 조선후기 가사 <나부가>에서 며느리에 대한 시가(媤家)의 왜곡된 욕망이라는 가부장제의 모순과 권력 관계의 균열이 발견된다는 점에 주목해 보았다. 그리고 이정환본 <나부가>에서 발견되는 '금세부인'의 항변과 그 논리를 당대 현실의 사례들과 연계하여 그 의미를 해석해 보고자 하였다. 가부장제라는 이데올로기를 기준으로 분석해 보면 <나부가>에서 발견되는 금세부인의 면모가 '개성적 인간형'으로 이해될 수 있지만 당대 여성의 입장에서 본다면 상당히 현실적이고 솔직한 항변이 이정환본 <나부가>에 추가되었다고 볼 수 있다. 특히 '나부'를 규정하는 이들의 시각이 아닌, '나부'로 평가되는 여성의 입장과 목소리가 개입된 정황이 발견된다는 점에 주목해 보면 <나부가>의 이본별 차이는 당대 현실과 연계하여 해석될 가능성이 충분해 보인다. 이정환본 <나부가>에는 이념적 당위와 곤궁한 현실의 모순 속에서 난감해하고 괴로워하는 이들의 내면이 발견된다. 가부장적 권위를 유지하면서도 며느리의 노력 혹은 친정의 경제력으로 가난한 현실을 극복해 보고자 하는 시가 구성원들의 왜곡된 욕망이 확인되는 것이다. 계녀가류 가사 문학에 형상화된 부정적 여성의 형상과 내면을 고찰함에 있어 '수직적인' 시선을 최소화하고 상대주의적 관점에서 접근해 보면 이와 같이 현실적인 '삶'에 기반한 사람들과의 관계망, 의미망이 발견된다. '나부'라는 부정적 개념화를 유발한 기본적 원인은 가부장제라는 이데올로기지만 그녀들의 삶과 행동이 기록된 가사의 언어를 분석해 보면 규율과 일상 문화의 상관성 혹은 여성의 경제적 권력의 문제, 문화적 경향성 등과 같이 연동되어 있는 문제들이 새롭게 확인될 수 있는 것이다. '금세부인'이라는 일반 명사로 지칭된 당대의 많은 여성들은 친정에서 곱게 자란 여성이라 할지라도 '시댁'의 상황에 따라 완전히 '다른' 삶을 강요받아야 했을 것이다. 이정환본 <나부가>에 보이는 금세부인은 친정의 경제력이 있었기에 시가에서의 상황과 (암묵적으로) 요구된 압박 속에서도 끝까지 거부를 할 수 있었던 것으로 보인다. 반면 며느리의 친정이 가난할 경우 구박으로 죽음에 이르는 경우까지 있었다고 하니 자본의 위력만이 시가에서의 부조리한 상황에 대한 최소한의 '거부'를 가능케 한다는 씁쓸한 논리는 오늘날 우리 사회에도 여전히 적용되고 있는 듯하다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to examine the avaricious desires within the homes of husbands toward daughters-in-law that appear in the Lee Jeong-hwan version of alternate versions of , a Gasa work from the late-Joseon era, and the female voices resisting them. Efforts were made to consider and appreciate the real living conditions of those times that are reflected in literary works and their meanings from the viewpoint of challenges to patriarchal authority. According to an analysis based on the patriarchal system, Madam Geumse's features found in can be understood as a type of 'individual person.' Looking at it from the perspective of women from those times, quite practical and frank protests were added in the Lee Jeong-hwan version. In an aspect that a circumstance of intervention by positions and voice of women considered as 'Nabu (a lazy woman),' not viewpoints of persons who ordain 'lazy women,' is found, differences in alternate versions of were significant phenomena. Lee Jeong-hwan version also showed a desire to compensate economic inferiority of the husband's home with Confucian ideologies and overcome that inferiority through the daughter-in-law. The actual desires of members of the husband's home are to possess the property of the maiden home. As honor and 'others' eyes' are important, 'spinning' is very likely an object of expression of the desire. As more and more women have become subjects of economy, actual power may have been transferred to women. It can be said that the uneasy eyes of those men (members of the husband's home) are reflected in . The real foundations of the society are connected with the cracks in the patriarchal system, such as the problem of putting excessive responsibilities or expectations on women, the problem of seeking to abrogate the economic power of women or their maiden homes and the problem of the way to ordain 'Nabu' from the viewpoint of men should be taken into consideration. The interior lives and voices of women reflected in Gasa literature can be read by approaching literary works from the position of women.
