국문 초록

중국 江南의 명문가에서 태어난 才女 陳端生은 장편 거질의 <再生緣>을 지어서 몽환적인 인물 '孟麗君'을 창조해 놓았다. 어려서부터 총명과 재능을 과시하며 남다른 기질을 보였던 맹려군은 婚事에서의 불행을 계기로 또 다른 삶을 개척하여 살아가고자 했다. 혼인은 전통사회에서 相父敎子라는 婦德을 실천하는 계기이기도 하다. 맹려군은 이러한 고비에서 바로 여성의 삶을 포기하고 남장으로 사회에 진출하고 과거를 통해 가장 성공한 남성의 삶을 살아갔다. 여성작가 진단생은 맹려군을 창조해서 남권사회에서 억압받는 여성의 불평등에 도전했고 여성으로서 젠더화에 순응하지 않겠다는 태도를 보였다. '여성우위' '여성자주' '여성의 정치적 꿈' 등으로 대변되는 여권의식을 보여주었다. 하지만 창조적 인물 맹려군에게서는 이러한 의식이 보이지 않는다. 오히려 작중 남장한 酈君玉으로 男性的 의식과 감성이 주를 이루는 것이 특징이며, 여성의 삶과 감성에 대한 배려와 연민조차 없다. 맹려군과 려군옥, 남성과 여성의 이중적 감성구조에서 남성적 감성이 우위를 차지했다. 하지만 생물학적 여성이라는 본질을 초월할 수 없는 한계로 인해, 이중적 감성 구조의 충돌은 피할 수 없는 운명이기도 했다. 男裝으로 일궈낸 현달은 남장이 탄로됨에 따라 결국 그 이상의 갈등과 고통으로 여성 맹려군을 위협했으며 끝내 비극적 결말을 자아냈다. 맹려군이라는 인물이 보여주는 조화를 이룰 수 없는 감성의 충돌은 마치 여성작가가 몸담고 있는 그 時代의 투영과 같은 것으로, 결말은 비극밖에 없다는 것을 확인해주었다. 진단생이 창조한 맹려군은 비록 꿈속에서 그려진 허구적 인물이라고 할지라도 그 당시 사회에서 분명히 가치가 있다. 그 속에 여성의 목소리, 여성의 활약, 여성의 가능성을 내포하고 있었으며, 어느 시대보다 부덕을 강요했던 明淸시기의 閨秀, 才媛들에게 맹려군은 대사회적 갈등을 해소하는 하나의 탈출구가 되었기 때문이다.

영문 초록

Chen Duansheng, a gifted woman born from a noble family of Jiangnan, China wrote a long piece called and created an imaginative figure named 'Meng Lijun'. Meng Lijun was brilliant and talented since childhood, but tried to start a new life after her misfortune with marriage. Marriage in the traditional society is an opportunity to practice womanhood of supporting one's husband and teaching one's child. At the verge of this crisis, Meng Lijun gave up her life as a woman and entered into the society in male attire. She passed state examination and lived the most successful life of a man. As a female writer, Chen Duansheng created Meng Lijun to challenge inequality of women suppressed in the masculine society and showed an attitude against the gender-defined culture. She showed her awareness about women's rights represented by 'female predominance', 'female independence' and 'political dream of women'. However, such awareness is not shown by the fictional character of Meng Lijun. In fact, she mainly shows masculine awareness and emotion as Li Junyu, her name in male attire, and does not even show consideration or sympathy with life and emotion of women. In the dual emotional structure of man and woman, Li Junyu and Meng Lijun, male emotion took priority. However, as it was impossible to overcome the biological identity of being a woman, collision of the two emotions was inevitable. Her distinction in the society in male attire threatened Meng Lijun with greater conflict and pain, eventually leading to a tragic end. The collision of emotions shown by Meng Lijun reflects the time period in which the female artist lived showing that tragedy always awaits in the end. Meng Lijun is an imaginative figure, but she definitely has an important value for the society of the era because she contains voices, active roles, and possibilities of women. Meng Lijun was an escape way to resolve great social conflict, offering fantasy to maidens and talented women of the Ming-Qing transition period when womanhood was emphasized more than any other periods.
