팜므파탈이라는 장치와 젠더화된 사회적 집합감정

국문 초록

팜므파탈이 아니라 팜므파탈 '현상'의 의미를 검토하기 위해 본고에서는 한국문학사에서 악녀의 등장을 알린 염상섭의 『사랑과 죄』와 여성 범죄자의 형상을 뚜렷하게 각인시킨 방인근의 『마도의 향불』을 중심으로 팜므파탈의 등장을 근대적 자본주의 소비문화가 점차 무르익던 1920년대 후반에서 1930년대의 정치경제적, 사회문화적 변이와의 상관성 속에서 논의해보았다. 『사랑과 죄』와 『마도의 향불』 분석을 통해 흘러넘치며 잡히지 않은 정념의 유동성을 고착화하려는 시도가 사회적 잔여에 대한 젠더화된 육체적 재현을 통해 구체화되며 그것이 만들어내는 집단적 고정관념에 의해 일상을 떠받치는 견고한 사회 구성원리가 마련되었음을 확인했다. '위험한 여성'으로서의 '팜므파탈'의 호명(/등장) 과정에 대한 이러한 고찰은 식민지 모더니티가 내장한 문제들, 사회적 계층 변동과 재구축의 절합적 국면에 대한 시야를 열어준다. 따라서 팜므파탈의 등장에 주목함으로써 팜므파탈이 계급과 민족(/종족)의 경계를 가로지는 교차점이자 은폐된 흑점임을, 식민지기 정치와 경제 그리고 사회적 제(諸)문제의 스펙트럼을 펼쳐 보일 프리즘일 수 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 나아가 팜므파탈의 등장으로 감춰진 일상 차원의 분리와 차이의 장면들에 대한 추적은 팜므파탈이 젠더화된 사회적 집합감정의 반영이자 그것을 스테레오타입으로 고정화하려는 규율화의 결과물임을 확인하게 하는 동시에 규율화와 젠더화된 감정의 다른 배치 가능성을 가늠하게 해준다. '장치'로서의 팜므파탈에 대한 관심은 보다 근본적으로는 식민/탈식민의 논리로 회수될 수 없는 근대의 불연속적이고 비가시적 영역에 대한 환기라고 할 수 있으며, 무엇보다 팜므파탈을 '장치'로 보려는 이 시도는 정념의 젠더적 차별화를 자본주의와 계급관계와의 상관성 속에서 논의함으로써 '가부장제에 구체적 역사성을 부여할 수 있는' 글로컬적 시야를 열어준다고 하겠다.

영문 초록

By using methodology drawn from recent developments in the theory of affect, this study investigates the femme fatale frame and (re)arrangement of gendered passion in colonial Korea. Especially, this study attempts to historicize the femme fatale in colonial Korea 1920s-1930s. A Femme fatale is a trans-cultural stereotype of a wish-fulfillment woman image that is ground in male pleasure and fear of the female and micro-powers and (re)arrangement of the gendered passion in our society. A femme fatale is an archetype in literature and art, and we usually imagined her just as a de-historicized cultural stereotype. But the origin of a femme fatale is deeply associated with a global mood of 'the Fin-de-Siècle' that induces the reorganization of the Imperial/colonial, the formation of the (male) national identity, and the morally reformation of the social order. A figure of femme fatale in the 1920s-1930s had been represented as a 'modern girl' and 'new woman criminal' whose appearance was a western style with bobbed hair. She tried to be upgrading state using her sexual attraction but failed in the end by modern police system. It shows that although she is typically villainous, or at least ambiguous, and always connected with a sense of mystification, the characteristic of a femme fatale is related with a local socioeconomic situation. This study aims not to femme fatale but to femme fatale "phenomenon" which is represented by held in 'dangerous woman and new woman criminal' in colonial modernity. A historicization of the femme fatale can show the procedure of the private/public separation, and disclose the social class system changing under the capitalization in colonial Korea.
