국문 초록

본고는 아이러니를 통해 본 현대 비평이론의 인식론적 편향을 드러내며 대안적 의미의 존재론 혹은 존재론적 관계론의 원리를 밝힌다. 필자는 먼저 대표적인 포스트모던 이론가라고 할 수 있는 질 들뢰즈와 펠릭스 가타리, 린다 허치언 등의 아이 러니 개념이 인식론과 존재론의 경계에서 무차별적으로 사용되거나 지나치게 인식론적으로 사유되는 경향이 있어 왔다는 점을 강조한다. 그리고 보다 구체적으로 자크 데리다와 폴 드 만, 그리고 정신분석 이론가들은 자크 라캉이나 슬라보예 지젝 등이 주장하는 아이러니의 개념은 인식론과 존재론의 차이를 명확하게 구분해 내지 못하고, 심지어는 존재론적인 가치, 원리를 인식론적으로 환원시키고 있다. 반면 낭만주의와 특히 신비평을 필두로 하는 모더니즘에서 아이러니의 존재론적 가치가 보다 중요한 의미를 지녔다. 특히 존재론적 원리로서 모더니즘의 아이러니는 공간, 형식, 대칭 관계, 혼종성, 차이, 창의적 연역성, 형식적 연결성 등의 관계의 구조적가치를 드러낸다. 의미와 해석이 중요한 과제였던 포스트모던 시대와 그 이후의 비 평적 담론은 이러한 원리들을 망각 혹은 간과해 왔다. 그리고 아이러니의 존재론적원리는 무엇보다 문학 주체간 형식적 차원의 관계적 상호작용과 더불어 문학의 미학적 지평에 대한 논의와 맞닿아 있다.

영문 초록

The notion of irony often reflects modern critical tendency of epistemological pursuit in literary discourse. By undoing the propensity of modern theory and criticism, my theoretical reasoning is oriented to uncovering the ontological scope of irony. First, I argue that postmodern critics like Deleuze, Gauttari and Hutcheon fail to differentiate or blurs the fine line between the territory of ontology and that of epistemology, epistemologizing the term. Second, more specifically, I analyze the theoretical practice of the deconstruction critics like Derrida and de Man to show how they mistakenly confuse the precise distinction, and downplay its ontological quality. Third, I show what ontological values of irony were celebrated in romanticism and modernism in particular. They are concerned with the qualities like space, form, hybridity or differentiation, creative deduction, and formalistic connectivity among the related parts. But they have oftentimes been misunderstood or disregarded through the critical history of literature. Thus, the ontological principle of irony first and foremost reveals the aesthetic dimension of literature that propagates interaction between the addresser and addressee.
