박재삼의 시와 전후 현대시의 ‘전통’

국문 초록

이 연구는 ‘전후현대시’라는 시대적 맥락 안에서 박재삼 시를 읽어야 한다는 전제에서 출발한다. 그의 시가 ‘전통’의 수립이라는 시대적 요청 아래 놓여 있으며, 전통 서정의 미학을 독자적인 방식으로 개진했음에 주목하는 것이다. 전후 시단에서는 한국문학의 연속성과 세계성을 담보하기 위한 교량으로서 전통의 필요성이 제기되었고, 이런 의미에서 전통은 ‘요청적 담론’의 성격을 지닌다고 하겠다. 전후의 전통 담론이 형성되는 가운데 출간된 박재삼의 시는 당대 논자들이 의미화하려 한 ‘전통’의 모습을 그려내는데 일정정도 성공했다고 볼 수 있다. 이는 두가지 의미에서이다. 《춘향이 마음》은 기존 서사에서 주목하지 않았던, ‘사랑’, ‘기다림’, ‘사무침’, ‘한’ 등을 ‘마음’이라는 시어로 형상화하는데 주력하고 있다. 당대의 시인들이 전유하고자 했던 ‘전통’이 ‘텅 빈 기표’로 존재하는 상황에서, 그는 재래의 정서에 새로운 현실감을 부여한다. 이 때 새로운 현실감이 의미하는 바는 ‘한’이라는 이념의 구체적 형상화이다. 다른 하나는, 그의 시가 정서나 감정 을 물질화하여 선명한 이미지로 드러내는 데에 성공했다는 점이다. 특히 그의 이미지 운용은 동양적 ‘화和’의식에 기반하여 슬픔과 기쁨, 삶과 죽음의 이원론적 세계를 통합하는데 성공하고 있다. 햇빛의 세계는 반드시 눈물의 세계를 거쳐 가 며 반대로 눈물은 반짝임과 빛남의 세계를 동반한다. 그것은 곧 비극적 근원을 가지고 있으면서도 그 근원에 머물러 있지 않는 박재삼의 복합적 서정을 탄생시키는 기반이 된다.

영문 초록

This study starts from a premise of needing to read Park Jae-sam’s poetry in the context of period as ‘postwar modern poetry’. It focuses on the fact that his poetry is situated under the needs of time of establishing ‘tradition’, and that he used the aesthetics of traditional lyricism in his own style. In the postwar poetical circles, the need for tradition was raised as a bridge of ensuring the continuity and internationality of Korean literature. In this sense, tradition can be said as having the characteristic of ‘request discourse’. Park Jae-sam’s poetry published in the midst of a situation where the postwar tradition discourse was being formed can be seen as having succeeded to a certain degree in portraying the appearance of ‘tradition’ that the disputants of the time asked themselves. It is in the two types of sense. ≪Chun hyang yi Maeum≫concentrates on embodying ‘love’, ‘waiting’, ‘poignancy’ and ‘han (deep sorrow)’ that previous transcriptions did not focus on. In the midst of a situation where tradition that poets of the time sought to monopolize existed as an empty symbol, he grants new sense of reality to conventional sentiment. What this new sense of reality signifies is a specific embodiment of the notion of ‘han (deep sorrow)’. The other is that his lyricism succeeded in materializing sentiment or emotion to reveal it as a clear image. In particular, his image successfully integrates the dualistic world of sadness & joy and life & death. This is based on ‘aesthetics of harmony’ as the ideal destination of creation in oriental aesthetics. Tears and the river shine in harmony respectively with sunlight and moonlight. Such consciousness of harmony become an aesthetic root of Park Jae-sam’s poetry. While the world of sunlight always passes through the world of tears, tears accompany the world of shine and brilliance. This becomes the foundation of birthing Park Jae-sam’s complex lyricism that has tragic root but does not remain in such root.
