국문 초록

이 연구는 웹드라마의 스토리텔링 양상과 그것이 갖는 함의를 탐구하기 위한 것으로, 웹드라마에서 드러나는 이야기 구조와 그 전개방식의 특징은 무엇이며, 웹드라마에서 드러나는 영상구성의 특징은 무엇인지 이해하고자 하였다. 6편의 웹드라마에 대한 서사분석을 통해 웹드라마가 소수의 인물과 핵심 플롯을 기반으로 한 단선적인 이야기로 구성되거나 짧은 에피소드에서 서사적 완결을 지향하되, 다양한 에피소드로 분화되는 계열체적 특성을 강조하고 있음을 발견하였다. 영화나 방송 드라마에 비해 복잡한 서사세계를 구축하지는 않지만, 웹드라마는 새로운 스토리 이용방식 혹은 향유 방식을 형성하고 있으며, 다양한 다른 미디어와의 스토리 연계가 중요해지는 멀티 플랫폼 콘텐츠 시대에 중요한 스토리 매체로도 기여하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 또한 영상구성 방식에 있어서 웹드라마는 기존의 모바일 영화 등을 통해 시도된 바와 같이 클로즈업과 컴퓨터 그래픽의 활용을 통해 제한된 인터페이스의 한계를 극복할 뿐만 아니라 디지털 기술의 표현 가능성을 적극적으로 구현하고 있다.

영문 초록

This study is to explore the storytelling and screen composition modes of web-dramas and the implications of the new genre by asking the characteristics of narrative structure, the manner of developing the story and the composition of screen for the visual storytelling. Analysing on 6 web-dramas, the significant result was produced as follows. Firstly, the narrative structure of web-dramas is described as the emphasis on the paradigmatic axis diverged to varied episodes and the narrative completion based on the small numbers of characters, the unilinear plot, and the composition of short episodes for the story arc. Web-dramas, as the new genre, are trying to adopt the new storytelling methods and appropriating the established drama storytelling strategies developed for decades in TV industry. The new genre is adding the novel features on storytelling landscapes, and it is shaping the new form of storytelling in the multi-platform period. Secondly, the screen composition methods for visual storytelling of web-dramas are characterized as the utilization of close-up shots and extreme close-up shots tried in mobile movies and appropriation of computer graphics images, special effects, and motion graphics. Web-dramas are using the potentials of digital technology for image creation and overcoming the constraints of limited interfaces of mobile device.
