다중처치의 선택편의를 조정한 EBS 수능강의 효과 분석

국문 초록

이 연구에서는 <한국교육종단연구 2005> 자료의 일반계 고등학교 3학년 학생들의 2011학년도 대학수학능력시험점수에 대한 교과별 EBS 수능강의 수강의 효과를 검토하였다. EBS 수능강의 수강에 영향을 미치는 사전적 특성차이를 조정하기 위해 단일처치의 선택편의 조정모형 (Probit 모형)과 다중처치의 선택편의 조정모형 (SUBP 모형)을 적용하고 결과를 비교하여 논의하였다. 분석결과, EBS 수능강의를 수강하는 학생집단과 수강하지 않는 학생 간에는 성별, 사전성취수준, 학업효능감, 수업이해도, 수업집중도, 사전 EBS 수강경험, 학급규모, 지역에서 유의한 차이가 존재했다. 이러한 사전적 특성차이를 경향점수 안정화 역확률가중치 방식으로 조정하고, EBS 수강과 사교육 참여의 상호작용효과를 포함한 가중회귀분석을 수행하였다. 단일처치의 선택편의를 조정한 분석결과, 언어와 외국어영역에서는 EBS수강과 사교육 참여의 상호작용효과만 유의하였으며, 수리영역에서는 EBS 수강의 주효과와 사교육 참여와의 상호작용효과가 모두 유의하게 나타났다. 다중처치의 선택편의를 조정한 분석결과, 언어와 외국어영역에서는 EBS 수강의 효과와 사교육 참여와의 상호작용효과 모두 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타났 으나, 수리영역은 EBS 수강의 효과와 사교육 참여와의 상호작용효과 모두 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 이 연구의 결과로부터 EBS 수강 참여에 따른 선택편의와 사교육 참여의 선택편의를 동시에 조정한 분석의 의의와 발전방안에 대해서 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the average causal effect of Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) lecture on College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT). To achieve the purpose, propensity score to adjust the selection bias of multiple treatments is applied. In estimating the causal effect of treatment using observed data, the propensity score methodology has been applied and expanded to various kinds of treatments such as ordinal and continuous variables. This study extends the application of propensity score to account for simultaneous or joint choice situations, wherein different choices are available at the same time. For example, a student might encounter a simultaneous decision making situation such as deciding to participate in EBS lecture or private tutoring. In this case, if one situation involving a choice depends on the outcome of the other, endogeneity occurs. To deal with these issues, some choice models have been developed to solve the joint problems of simultaneity and endogeneity. However, these models are not incorporated into the propensity score. Two kinds of models are applied in the analysis. The first one adjusts the single treatment using the Probit Model while the other adjusts multiple treatments using a Seemingly Unrelated Bivariate Probit (SUBP) Model. The data used for this study comprise the five to six year Korea Education Longitudinal Study (KELS) data. The EBS lecture showed positively significant effect on math achievement, and the interaction effect of EBS lecture and private tutoring on math was negatively significant. The interaction effects of EBS lecture and private tutoring on Korea and English achievement were negatively significant when applying probit model; this effect, however, disappeared when applying SUBP model.
