국문 초록

식생활사는 우리의 흘러가는 일상을 텍스트로 형상화하는 문학 세계에서 인간의 욕망과 이상, 사회, 문화를 담아내는 유용한 도구가 되어왔다. 우리나라의 경우 고전문학에서부터 동시대문학에 이르기까지 등장하는 식공간에 관한 소재는 우리 민족의 생활 풍습에서부터 시대의 변화에 따른 가치관의 변화, 현대로 와서는 대중문화를 읽을 수 있는 기회를 제공하고 있다. 그간 진행되어온 문학 작품을 통한 음식연구는 대부분 고조리서와 문헌을 통해서 음식문화사를 고증하는 것이 주를 이루었다. 이러한 연구는 전통음식문화의 시대적 변화 양상을 파악하고 전통음식을 재현 하는 데에 큰 역할을 담당해왔다. 그러나 최근에는 인문학적 측면에서 음식문화를 연구하고, 문학작품 속에 나타난 음식의 상징적인 의미와 표현 방식에 따라 작가의 주제의식이나 가치관, 심리를 파악하는 연구가 다양하게 진행되고 있다. 본 연구는 음식연구의 다양한 관점을 수용하여 백석의 시에 나타난 식공간 자료를 고증하고 그것을 통해 작가의 작품과 경험세계를 이해하고자하였다. 따라서 우리나라 근대 문학에서 가장 많은 음식을 소재로 한 백석의 시 중에서도 단일 음식물이 처음으로 제목으로 쓰인｢국수｣를 연구 대상으로 하였다. 한 편의 영화와 같이 감각적 이미지로 수사되는 가족들의 평범한 식탁은 그의 시 안에서 멋의 정취를 가진 유년시절의 정겨운 세계로 생생하게 펼쳐진다. 그 공간 안에서 음식은 입의 쾌락을 위해서도 아니고 배고픔을 해결하는 생계수단도 아니라 하나의 민족의식으로 존재했다. ｢국수｣에 나타난 ‘평양냉면’은 백석이 태어나고 자란 고향 마을의 맛이었다. 또한 작품 외적으로 작가가 처한 시대적 상황을 살펴보면, 그 국수의 맛은 유년기를 추억하게 하는 동시에 다시는 다함께 국수를 준비하던 시절로 돌아갈 수 없음을 인지하게 하는 매개체이기도 하다. 작품 속에 드러난 식공간에 대한 서술은 당시의 깊숙한 생활정서를 함의하고 있어 시에 등장하는 국수에 대한 식문화를 고찰할 수 있었으며, 이는 음식 연구의 민속학적 측면에서 우리에게 유의미한 단서들을 제공한다. 음식에 관한 추상적 사유들을 구체적으로 기술한 문학 텍스트를 해석하는 것은 식문화에 대한 다양한 관점을 접하고 작품과 작가를 새롭게 이해할 수 있는 기회를 가진다는 점에서도 그 의의를 찾을 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The dining life history has been a useful tool that describes human's desire, ideal, community and culture in the literary world with texts of daily lives. Dining life materials that make appearance from classic literature to contemporary literature in Korea give opportunity to understand changes of values from life customs of Koreans as well as public culture in modern days. Studies on the food over literary works were made mostly by ancient cooking books and literatures to verify history of food culture. Those studies helped investigate changes of traditional food culture at time elapse to reproduce traditional food. These days, researchers are investigating food culture from humanity point of view to research author's theme consciousness, values and psychology in accordance with symbolic values and expressions of the food in literary works. This study accepted various kinds of viewpoints of studies on the food to verify dining space materials of Baekseok's poems and to understand author’s works and experience world. This study investigated “Guksu” which means “Noodle” in Korean and thus referred as “Noodle” hereafter, the first work with a title of food name among his poems that had materials of the largest number of food in modern literature of Korea. The ordinary but heartwarming scenes of family meals shown in “Noodle” are as lively as those in movies with sensual images and vivid local languages and they lead readers to the childhood experiences with taste. The food in the space is not for pleasure in the mouth and/or solving hunger but consciousness of the Koreans. “Pyeongyang Naengmyeon” in “Noodle” had taste of Baekseok's hometown. The literary work's dining space described deep life emotion at that time to investigate food materials, cultivation, cooking and ancestor's culture and spiritual world and to help understand reasons of the food as well as work world. Investigation into food and dining space through literary works gives significant conditions from the point of view of folk lore of food studies. Interpretation of descriptive texts of abstract reasons of the food gives various kinds of points of views on the food to understand literary works and writers in a new way.
