국문 초록

삼국시대 고분에서 출토되는 용봉문환두대도는 환두부와 병연금구, 초미금구, 병부에 표현한 용문 혹은 봉황문을 금, 은, 동 등의 귀금속을 사용해 화려하게 꾸민 장식대도를 말한다. 본고에서는 최근 자료가 급증한 백제지역 출토품을 비롯해 삼국시대 한반도에서 출토된 용봉문환두대도를 집성한 후 제작기술의 분석을 통해 대도의 계보와 기술 전파 양상 및 그 의미에 대해 검토하였다. 패용자의 성격이 가장 위시적으로 드러날 것으로 추정되는 환두부를 중점으로 제작기술 속성과 형태 속성을 검토한 결과 용봉문환두대도는 총 3개의 형식으로 분류할 수 있었다. 각 형식에 대한 연대는 절대연대자료의 부족과 형식별 개체수의 부족으로 고분 편년을 참고하였는데, A형 식과 B형식은 대략 5세기 전·중엽을 중심시기로, C형식은 5세기 후엽에서 6세기 중엽까지 존 속했던 것으로 파악할 수 있었다. 다음으로 형식별 분포 상황과 제작기술을 통해 각 형식의 계보를 파악하였다. 그 결과 A형식 과 B형식은 백제계로, C형식은 대가야계로 파악할 수 있었다. 형식별 기술의 전파 양상과 관련해서는 5세기 후엽 완성된 형태로 돌연히 출현하는 대가야계 용봉문환두대도에 주목하고 이러한 배경에는 한성기 백제에 존재하고 있었던 A, B형식의 용봉문환두대도 제작기술이 웅진천도(475 년) 등을 계기로 대가야지역에 전파되었을 가능성을 지적하였다. 대가야계 용봉문환두대도가 한반도 남부지방에 확산되는 현상에 대해서는 5세기 후엽 영역국 가단계까지 발전한 대가야 왕권에 의해 대가야권 내 지방 수장층에게 사여되거나 신라 및 영산강 유역 정치체들과의 교역의 산물일 가능성을 지적할 수 있었다. 마지막으로 6세기 중엽 대가야계 용봉문환두대도가 더 이상 확인되지 않는 현상은 대가야의 멸망(562년)과 관련이 있을 것으로 추정하였다.

영문 초록

This article intended to approach to the background of skill transfer and the tradition of sword with ringed pommel, dragon, and phoenix designs which was excavated in Korea through the analysis of its manufacturing skills. Summarizations are as follows: In Korea, the production of sword with ringed pommel, dragon, and phoenix designs was originated from Hangseong period of Baekje Dynasty and the sword was excavated in Gongju, Cheonan, and etc. which are considered as the part of Baekje Dynasty in 5th Century. When limiting only to manufacturing skill of pommel focused in this article, the skill of manufacturing large sword during Baekje Dynasty can be divided into two technical groups: one manufactured the pommel by casting iron and usign inlay and gold plate. the other used Amalgam gliding after casting copper. Such sword with ringed pommel, dragon, and phoenix designs during Baekje Dynasty can be also found in Daegaya and Sogaya territories as well as in the part of Baekje. It seems that this was happened by the exchange between Baekje in Hanseong period and Gaya territories which planned the development after marched into the southern part of Korea by Goguryeo Dynasty in A.D. 400. Since then, during Woongjin period, this sword was not found in Baekje except for objects excavated from Tomb of King Muryong but was suddenly found with completed shape in Daegaya. It seems that Daegaya accepted the skill of this large sword which had been existed in Baekje Dynasty while manufactured own sword with ringed pommel, dragon, and phoenix designs by introducing own skill into it. When considering such phenomenon by connecting with the period of latter 5th Century, it can be postulated that the skill of large sword manufacturing master of Baekje was transferred into Daegaya with a fall of Hanseong by Baekje. The manufacturing skill transferred from Hanseong period of Baekje into Daegaya was verified in metal crafts, harness, and etc. as well as large swords. Since the mid-term of 6th Century, the sword with ringed pommel, dragon, and phoenix designs was not manufactured any more even in Daegaya and therefore, its manufacturing could not be verified in Korea. It seems that this manufacturing skill was transferred to Japan since the mid-term of 6th Century.
