국문 초록

1990년대 이후 백제와 고구려 기와에 대한 연구는 괄목한 만한 진보를 이루고 있다. 그 배경에는 국내외 주요 유적들의 발굴조사와 보고서 발간 그리고 소장 유물에 대한 연구물의 출간 등 자료 증가가 뒷받침되고 있다. 본고는 백제 및 고구려와 동시기에 존립하였던 중국 위진남북조의 제와술과 비교적 시각에 기초하여 백제·고구려의 제와술에 대한 이해를 심화하려는 의도의 산물이다. 백제 한성기에는 점토띠-내박자·타날판 성형법, 점토띠-와통성형법으로 제작된 기와가 공존하며, 점토판-와통성형법이 뒤늦게 유입되었다. 전자는 한 및 위·진 제와술 이 공존한 낙랑 말기의 상황과 밀접한 관련이 있는 것으로 이해되는데, 한성기 백제 와 당의 제작기법의 연원이 낙랑에서 찾아지는 점도 같은 맥락이다. 후자는 남조 기와에 서도 확인되는 점인데, 전문의 채용, 수면문와당의 출현과 함께 육조 제와술의 점진적 인 유입 양상을 시사하고 있다. 웅진기 이후에는 정지산 유적을 필두로 점토판-와통 성 형품이 급증하는 등 남조 제와술이 폭넓게 수용된 양상이 파악된다. 사비기 이후에도 지속된 점토띠 소지 사용, 토수기와로 대변되는 상이한 제작 전통의 등장, 고구려계 와당의 출현 등은 여전히 해명을 요하는 요소들이다. 한편, 군수리 사지의 선단부파상문 암키와는 북조 제와술의 유입 가능성에 대한 적극적인 검토의 필 요성을 제기하고 있다. 7세기 이후 유행한 인각와도 북조 및 수·당의 문자기와 전통과 비교될 만하다. 고구려 와당은 권운문이 필두가 되는데, 한·위진기에 유행한 운문와당의 마지막 단계를 장식한다. 구획연화문 와당은 삼연의 도읍이었던 조양 용성에서 출토된 것과 유사하여 관련성이 주목된다. 한편, 수면문와당이나 비구획연화문와당은 도안과 제작법 측면에서 육조와의 관련성도 제기되고 있다. 평기와 제작기법은 점토띠-와통성형법을 근간으로 하며, 문자기와의 존재, 선단부파상문 암키와 등도 주요 특징 중의 하나이다. 이러한 점들은 북조 기와에서도 간취되는 특징이므로, 그 배경이 주목된다. 전반적으로, 백제 제와술은 남중국, 고구려 제와술은 북중국과 많은 친연성이 있는 것은 인정된다. 하지만 양국 제와술의 전개과정을 단선적인 시각에서만 이해할 수는 없다. 중국 정권과의 교류, 백제와 고구려 상호간의 영향, 자체적인 요소 및 발전과정 등 여러 가지 요인을 종합적으로 고려할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Since 1990s, the study on roof tiles of Baekje and Koguryo makes great strides. It is largely due to excavations of the main relics and publication of reports and various thesis. This study is on the manufacturing technology of roof tiles of Baekje and Koguryo in comparison with that of Wei Chin Nanpeich’ao, 3~6C in China. In Hanseong period of Baekje, roof tiles were made by three methods. The first, beating (with paddle and anvil) method with clay coil, the second, bucket molding method with clay coil, the third, bucket molding method with clay slab. The first and the second method had been supplied simultaneously, hence the third lastly. Those were connected with the roof tile manufacturing technology of the late period of Lolang, and this suggest that technology of six dynasty in south China (Liu ch’ao) had been imported gradually just like design of coin pattern and goblin mask. Since Ungjin period, the third method supplied widly. Hence, during Sabi period, not only clay slab but also clay coil had been used as before, and new style appeared such as round tile slightly tapering at butt end, Koguryo stylic antefixes and flat tiles designed wave pattern on edge. This, especilly was likely to be in relation with technology of PeiWei(北魏). Antefixes of Koguryo had begun with cloud pattern decoration, and those were on the genealogy of HanWeiChin. Lotus motif designed Antefixes are similar to those excavated from Choyang. Design of goblin mask and some lotus motif antefixes are said to be made under the influence of East Chin(東晋). Clay coil - bucket mold technique is the main characteristic of Koguryo roof tiles. There are roof tiles with writtern chracters, desigine of wave pattern. These characteristic also are found out of those of PeiWei. Finally, manufacturing technology of Baekje and Koguryo is thought to be related with NanCh’ao(南朝) and PeiCh’ao(北朝). But it should be considered under complex cause, such as interchange between themselves and China, between Baekche and Koguryo, and development or change of themselves.
