조선족 아리랑의 무대 수용 사례 연구

국문 초록

중국 길림성 연변조선족자치주 도문시 량수진 정암촌(亭岩村)에서 전승되고 있는 ‘청주아리랑’은 중국 내 충북 사람들의 애환이 담겨 있는 전통민요로서 지역적 특수성을 띠고 있다. 그러나 시각을 확대하면, ‘청주아리랑’은 중국 내 경상도 사람들, 강원도 사람들, 전라도 사람들, 나아가 가팔랐던 역사적 부침을 억척스럽게 헤쳐 나간 한민족의 애환을 느낄 수 있는 전통민요로서 한국적 보편성을 띠고 있다. 한국적 보편성을 띠고 있다는 것은 ‘나’를 포함하여 ‘나의 지역’은 물론 ‘나의 나라’ 사람들이 어떤 동질적인 체험과 인식을 통해 ‘아리랑’을 하나의 통일된 주제로 인식하고 있다는 것을 의미한다. 이러한 입장에서, ‘청주아리랑’은 전통과 현대 그리고 국외와 국내라는 시공을 연결할 수 있는 ‘우리 문화원형’으로서 가치를 지니고 있다고 할 수 있다. 그런데 근간에 들어, ‘우리 문화원형’이라고 하는 것들의 무대적 수용이 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 전통문화를 문화콘텐츠 개발의 문화자원으로 상정하고, 현대인의 감각과 문화 정서에 부합하도록 변용시켜 재창조하는 작업이 이루어지고 있는 것이다. 극단 늘품에서 2014년에 제작한 〈랩소디 오브 C 아리랑〉도, 이러한 전통문화의 무대적 수용으로 볼 수 있다. 이 공연물은 정암촌 사람들의 집단이주와 정착, 그리고 개척 과정을 이른바 팩션(faction) 형식을 빌려 형상화한 리혜선의 『두만강의 충청도아리랑』을 저본으로 전개하고 있다. 그리고 1978년에 민요독창회를 성황리에 개최했을 만큼 조선족 최고의 민간연예인으로 인정받았던 고(故) 신철의 ‘청주아리랑’을 리메이크하여 배경음악으로 활용하고 있다. 꾸며낸 이야기로서 픽션이 아니라 실제 사건에 의거한 논픽션으로서 정암촌 사람들의 이주 내력과 삶의 애환을 조명했다고 할 수 있다. 이들 공연물을 통해, 관객은 강제이주, 광복, 사회주의와 공산주의, 집체화와 문화대혁명을 조망한다. 또 전통문화로서 민요가 어떻게 한민족을 단결시켰으며, 어떻게 생명력을 이어갔는지 이해한다. 그리고 궁극에는 일제의 집단이주정책이 한민족의 삶을 어떻게 황폐화시켰는지 체득한다. 그러나 창작소재를 단일 작품에서만 추출했기 때문에, 한편 스토리의 한계를 내포하고 있다. 따라서 ‘청주아리랑’에 대한 정암촌 사람들의 저마다 인식과 사연을 포함하는 구술사 중심의 컨텍스트에 초점을 맞추어 자료를 집적할 필요가 있다. 그것을 토대로 스토리를 개발한다면, 보다 특별한 ‘우리 문화원형’으로서 유용한 자료가 될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The Cheongju Arirang is tradition in China jeongam villages(亭岩村) has implications for regional particularities as traditional folk songs contained joys and sorrows of Chungbuk people living in China.
