당전기에 등장하는 노비(奴婢)의 역할과 의미 고찰

국문 초록

당 전기 소설은 당대 사회의 특권층에 관한 이야기가 주류를 이루어 많은 노비(奴婢)들이 이야기 속에 등장하고 있으나 그들의 비천한 삶의 문제를 본격적으로 다룬 작품은 찾아볼 수 없다. 노비 이름을 제목으로 삼은 작품들에 나타난 노비의 형상 역시 결국은 상전의 문제와 결부된 사건의 틀 속에서 제한적으로 활약하는 원조자에 불과하다. 이러한 피지배계층에 대한 문학적 소외 현상은 당시 지배층의 선민의식에서 생성된 문인작가들의 고정관념이 가장 큰 근본 원인이라 할 수 있다. 본고는 신분 계급 제도가 이미 엄격하게 확립된 시대에 지어진 전기 작품에 나오는 남녀 노비들의 역할과 의미, 그리고 여러 다른 성향의 노비를 통해 작가가 고사 구성 차원에서 의도했던 바가 무엇이었는지를 4가지 모티프로 나누어 고찰한 것이다.

영문 초록

The meaning of the slaves in Chinese literature Tang Chanqi(唐傳奇) are consistent throughout the Chinese cultures. From 〈slavery-in-ancient-china〉, Generally, the slavery society are believed to be ended after the establishment of Qin(秦) Dynasty, though there were slaves in remote mountain areas in China until 1950. A sad group of people in the ancient world, occupied a large portion of the population in ancient China since 2,100 BC, when Xia(夏) Dynasty started. Lives of slaves were the hardest of all. Many Chinese people were slaves. Most people who were slaves worked in the fields, the same as free people. Some of them worked as servants in rich people’s houses. The Emperor owned hundreds of slaves, and some of them worked for the government, collecting taxes or building roads. Some people were born slaves, because their mothers were slaves, and other people were sold into slavery to pay debts. The purpose of this paper is about dividing three types of the slave’s motif shown up in Chinese Ancient Novels, and about finding out the meaning of their characteristics.
