국문 초록

본고는 칼빈의『트렌트 회의록과 반박문(Acta Synodi Tridentinae cum Antidoto)』에 나타난 로마 가톨릭 사상에 그의 비판의 요지와 요체를 고찰한다. 본 주제에 대한 학자들의 고찰은 주로 이신칭의 교리에 집중해서 구원론적 관점에서 트렌트 회의에서 추구된 로마 가톨릭주의가 반펠라기우스주의의 기조위에 기초해 있다는 점을 규명하는데 주력해 온 반면, 정작 그 핵심 사안이 성도의 구원의 의가 되는 그리스도의 의의 유일성과 객관성을 이 회의가 거부했다는 점에 대한 면밀한 탐구는 부족했다. 칼빈의 트렌트 회의에 대한 반박은 성경론과 인간론을 위시한 전반적인 핵심 교리에 미친다. 그 근저에는 그리스도가 구원의 공로 곧 의의 질료 혹은 의 자체가 되시며 우리는 그 의를 받아들이는 것이지 조성 혹은 창출하는 것이 아니라는 기독론적-구원론적 관점이 놓여있다. 여기에서 칼빈은 그리스도의 절대적인 의가 칭의와 성화를 포함한 성도의 구원의 전체 과정에서 작용하는 바, 그것은 자질로서 주입되지 않고 은혜로서 전가된다는 점을 시종 부각시킨다. 그 가운데 성화를 의화의 한 요소같이 여겨서 칭의와 성화를 구별하지 않고 혼합시키는 가운데 사제중보주의의 여지를 마련하고자 하는 교황주의자들에게 일침을 가하고 있다. 그리하여 기독교 신학은 그리스도의 신학인 가운데 교회의 신학이 되어야 함을 역설하고 있다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the main purport and essential points of Calvin's critique of Roman Catholicism unfolded in his theological treatise, Acta Synodi Tridentinae cum Antidoto. Here Calvin points out the fact that the distinctive nature of this council is found in its disapproving the absolute oneness and objectivity of Christ the Mediator's merit for our salvation, i.e., the consummated righteousness on the cross, and in its replacing the mediation of Christ with that of the sacerdotal intercession, which is based on the rather strict semi-Pelagian stand of Roman Catholicism and is propped up by the papal primacy of the bishop of Rome. According to this quite sharp antidote of the Reformer, the fundamental reason why the conciliar decrees and canons do not accept Biblical inspiration, total depravity, and the forensic character of justification, and indiscriminately blend justification with sanctification as nothing but two facets of the same process in the order of salvation is their rejection of the free imputation of the righteousness of Christ consummated by the whole passive and active obedience of the Son to the Father's will. Insisting on this, Calvin intimates that his intention to write this treatise is to invoke the fact that Christian theology, as a theology of the church, should be a theology of Christ originally and fundamentally.
