김승옥 소설의 여성표상에 나타난 일탈과 저항의 양상-<생명연습>, <무진기행>, <야행>을 중심으로

국문 초록

개인의식과 민주적 가치가 가시화되었던 1960년대 맥락에서 김승옥 소설이 갖는 문학적 위상은 ‘감수성의 혁명’과 더불어 ‘개인’의 발견으로 요약될 수 있다.이 글은 김승옥의 여성표상을 중심으로 현대성과 주체구성의 관련성을 분석하고 그것이 비판적 주체의 형성을 가능하게 만든 원동력임을 밝혀 보고자 했다. 김승옥 소설에 등장하는 60년대 개인 주체는 성찰과 자각을 바탕으로 억압적 현실에 저항적으로 대응한다. 여기서 저항의 기제로 표상되고 있는 여성인물은 주체의 기호로 상정되고 있는데, 이들의 일탈과 인식적 자율성은 주체의 무의식적 욕망을 드러내는 상징으로 전유되고 있다. 그의 소설에서 제도적 근대에 대한 개인의 대응전략은 위악적으로 자기를 위조함으로써 제시되고 있고, 그 과정들은 여성인물에 대한 폭력과 가학, 나르시시즘 등 여성표상과 깊은 관련이 있다. 특히 <생명연습>의 어머니와 누나, <무진기행>의 하인숙, <야행>의 현주 등이 보여주는 여성인물의 특이성은 위악적인 자기를 비판적으로 성찰하고 있다는 데에 서 찾을 수 있다. 물론 주체의 욕망을 여성을 매개 삼아 전유한다는 측면에서, 김승옥 소설의 여성표상 역시 ‘자기세계’의 양상을 모방하는 방식으로 이루어져 있다고 할 수 있다. 그러나 60년대 김승옥 소설의 여성표상에서 주목할 수 있는 것은 여성의 일탈 욕망이 성찰과 자각을 포함한다는 점이다. 여기서 주체는 여성표상이 행하는 역능을 통해 부정적 근대에 저항하는 전략을 보여주고 있는 것이다.

영문 초록

The literary status of Kim Seung-ok’s novels in the context of the 1960s in which individual consciousness and democratic values became visible can be summarized as “the revolution of sensitivity” together with the discovery of “individual.” This thesis analyzed the relationship between the modernity and the constitution of the subject focusing Kim Seung-Ok’s feminine symbols, and attempted to establish the process in which it becomes the main medium of individuals and society. The subject in the 1960s that appear in Kim Seung-Ok’s novels resists the violent real world of the time in the form of responses with introspection and self-awareness. Here the female characters symbolizing the mechanism of the resistance are presumed to be the signs of the subject and their deviation and cognitive autonomy are appropriated to be the symbols that reveal the subject’s unconscious desire. In his novels, the individuals’ strategies for responding to the negative world are presented in the form of assumed evil, “self-world,” and those processes are closely related to feminine symbols such as violence and ill-treatment to female characters, and narcissism. That’s what completely reveals the establishment desire of the subject who witnesses the Korean lack of modernity. Particularly, not only the image of the subject that is riddled with assumed evil but also the individuals’ struggling with self-reflection are strongly projected in the female characters such as mother and elder sister in Saengmyung Yeonseup, Ha In-sook in Mu-Jin-Gi-Haeng, Hyeon-ju in Ya-Haeng, and act as the opportunity to realize the inner mechanism of the subject’s such desires. In the aspect of re-appropriation of the subject’s desires through the feminine medium, it can be said that Kim Seung-ok’s novels are also made up of the ways of imitating “self-world.” However, what is prominent in the feminine symbols of Kim Seung-ok novels in the 1960s is the deviation desire that includes introspection and self-awareness. In that sense, the feminine symbols of kim Seung-ok novels in the 1960s show the subject’s reflective introspection that deny the contradictory real world of the time and attempt to internalize the strategies for resisting it.
