대학생의 취업성과 영향 요인 분석

국문 초록

대학교육이 보편화된 시대에 우리나라 대다수의 학생들은 대학교육을 받고 있으나, 실제로 다양한 개인 배경을 가지고 대학에 진학한 학생들이 대학에서의 경험들을 통해 어떠한 성과를 거두고 있는지에 대해서 아직 많은 부분 밝혀지지 않았다. 이에 본 연구는 한국교육고용패널(KEEP: Korean Education and Employ ment Panel) 중 고등학교 3학년 집단 자료(1-7차)를 이용하여 대학생의 취업성과에 미치는 영향요인 분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구에서 취업성과는 최종 교육기관 졸업 후 2년 이내의 취업성과이며, 고용형태, 전공일치 취업여부, 임금으로 구분하였다. 연구결과, 먼저 개인배경 중에는 남학생에 비해 여학생의 정규직 취업가능성이 낮으며, 내적 동기로 전공을 선택한 학생에 비해 외적 동기로 전공을 선택한 학생들의 전공일치 취업가능성과 임금이 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 대학환경 중에는, 전공계열이 취업성과에 상당한 영향을 주고 있었다. 인문계열 전공 학생에 비해 사회계열, 교육계열, 의약계열 등이 더 나은 취업성과를 보이고 있었다. 학생의 학업참여 및 학업외참여 요인들 중 학업태도는 정규직 취업가능성과 임금을 낮추고, 영어 사교육을 받은 시간은 정규직 취업가능성 및 임금을 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 연구결과를 토대로, 대학과 정부 차원에서 바람직한 대학교육성과를 가져올 수 있는 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Higher education is widespread in South Korea. However, the relationships between the students' achievement in post-college career and higher education are not yet clearly understood, and analyzing the relationships is a challenging task because individual students have different social and personal background. We conducted an empirical analysis that identifies the factors influencing the performance of higher education, using the 1st ~ 7th data on the cohort of 3rd-grade high-school students in Korean Education and Employment Panel (KEEP), and present the findings in this paper. In this study, career outcomes within two years after graduation are considered, and the outcome includes employment type, relevance to major, and salary. Main results from the analysis for the question (What factors affect students' career outcome?) are as follows. The employment rate was lower for female students, and the major-relevant employment rate was higher for the students when they selected majors from internal motives. In the analysis results of the college environment factors on the employment outcome, we see that the employment outcome is significantly affected by the field of study. Students majoring in social studies, education, medical science or pharmacy were more employed and earned higher salaries, compared to students in humanities. The factors on students' involvement in curricular and extra-curricular activities also influence the employment outcome. It turned out that the hours spent for private English education positively affected both the salary and the opportunity to be hired as a regular employee. In contrast, learning attitude negatively affected both the salary and the opportunity to be hired as a regular employee. Based on the findings above, we present several suggestions to enhance the educational performance for universities and the government.
