고학력 결혼이주여성들의 구직활동과 취업경험에 관한 내러티브 연구

국문 초록

이 연구에서는, 서울에 거주하는 고학력 결혼이주여성들의 구직활동과 과정, 직장생활의 어려움과 성취, 향후의 직업적 전망과 실천에 대해 내러티브적 접근에 기초하여 살펴보았다. 고학력 결혼이주여성들은 배우자와 가족의 정서적, 경제적 지원 하에 구직활동과 취업에 나서고 있었으며, 이들에게 경제적 이해는 구직의 여러 동기 중 하나일 뿐이었다. 또 이들은 사회참여와 직장생활에 대한 욕구가 매우 높았으며, 또 우울증과 고립감으로부터의 탈피, 한국어 습득과 한국사회 이해 등을 위해 취업을 원하고 있었다. 이들은 인터넷과 지인, 사회적 관계 및 대학의 언어교육원 등을 통해 취업소개와 일자리 관련 프로그램을 접하고 있었으며, 특히 대졸 결혼이주여성들에게만 한정된 공공 프로그램을 적극 활용하고 있었다. 직장생활에서 해당 여성들은 전문용어나, 공문서 작성 등 한국어와 관련한 곤란을 겪고 있었으며 업무의 단조로움과 발전적 전망의 부재로 힘들어하고 있었다. 더해서 한국적 인간관계와 위계적 문화에 적응하기 어려워하고 있었으며 동료들 사이에서 관계적, 업무적으로 소외되기도 하였다. 아울러 한국사람들의 문화적 편견과 차별에 노출되고 있었으며, 저임금과 장시간 노동, 과도한 업무 부담, 고용의 불안정에 시달리고 있었다. 그러나 동시에 이러한 경험들을 통해 한국사회를 이해해 가고 있었으며, 직무와 관련된 전문적 지식과 기술을 습득해 가고 있었다. 또 한국인들의 문화적 편견에 저항하고 있었으며, 일을 통한 사회적 주체로서 자기확인과 성취에 이르고 있었다. 아울러 귀국과 모국 취업의 가능성을 열어두고자 하였으며, 학력갱신, 각종 자격증 확보 및 다양한 사회활동을 통해 직업적 경쟁력을 높이고자 하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 기존의 결혼이주여성들의 취업과 직장 경험에 대한 연구와 여러 모로 상이하였으며, 이를 기초로 고학력결혼이주여성의 취업 촉진과 직장 적응에 관한 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This narrative study aims to analyse the processes and backgrounds of job-seeking activities, difficulties of job experiences and self-improvement practices for professional career for well-educated marriage-immigrant women who live around Seoul. The well-educated marriage-immigrant women who supported by their husbands emotionally and physically started job-seeking activities of their own free will, searched for job-informations through internet, personal connections and public institutions etc. They wanted not only to realize themselves socially and break out of depression and sense of isolation, but also to learn Korean and Korean society thorough life at work. Financial interests by jobs, though always important, was a secondary matter for them and some of them investing their own money challenged to get other certificates available in Korean job market. While they had hardly no problems in communicating teammates in Korean. they still lacked professional or technical vocabularies and had difficulties in sophisticated language lives. Furthermore, they suffered from long hours and low wages as temporary employees, monotonous tasks in their work and absences of developmental blueprint in their career. They were also hard put to it to make relationships with colleagues who adhere to their cultural way of life and sometimes differentiate themselves from marriage-immigrant women and exclude them socially or transactionally. At the same time, they became to understand Korean society, learned professional knowledges and skills related to their tasks and felt a sense of accomplishment as independent social subjects. Most of them kept their nationality and wanted to find another occupational possibilities sometime in the future in their home country. In addition, they tried to enhance their cultural capitals by getting a master's degree or some licenses and to join in various social activities to find a new vocational opportunities. Above results of this study are differentiated from those of existing relative researches in many points, hence may have various implications for employment promotion and job adjustment of the well-educated marriage-immigrant women.
