영문 초록

In the pursuit of improving a student's skill in communicating, movies can be a very useful teaching tool. This study focuses on improving vocabulary skills by using movies, specifically on the creative use of vocabulary by developing the student's ability to supply alternative and various vocabulary to different situations arising in movies Harry Met Sally and Good Will Hunting. This study suggests that the "silent-viewing method" is an effective method of such. Two experimental groups were divided and compared. One group was taught by watching the movie with the volume on, and the other used this silent-viewing method with the volume off. This study provided three results. First of all, the silent-viewing method greatly improved vocabulary skills. Secondly, it encouraged an awareness of new and various vocabulary, and developed a more creative use of new vocabulary. Thirdly, it can have a positive effect on communications skills by teaching students how to deliver their message more concisely.
