국문 초록

본 논문은 동양의 학자들인 우리가 현재까지 서양의 사고로 제한되어있는 비평이론, 특히 문학비평의 분야에서 공헌을 할 수 있는가의 탐구를 목적으로 한다. 나가르주나의 공사상과 화엄사상을 서양의 이론과 연결하는 논의를 하기 전에, 동양과 서양의 사상들이 서양형이상학이 전통적으로 이분법의 성격을 강하게 지니고 있다는 사실에도 불구하고 사실은 같은 목표를 지녀왔음을 논한다. 니체와 헤겔이 좋은 예가된다. 그들은 동양사상을 대함에 있어 처음에는 매우 특별한 관심을 가졌으나 나중에는 허무주의로 치부해버렸음을 설명한다. 그리고는 하이데거의 존재론이 서양철학전통이 보여 온 사고의 범위의 외계를 보려고 시도하다가 다시 전통으로 돌아가는 철학의 대표적인 예로 상세히 논의된다. 서양의 전통에서 연구되어오지 않은 무에 대한 하이데거의 사유는 특히 예술작품에 관한 그의 미학에서 두드러진다. 그런 다음 본 논문은 왜, 그리고 어떻게 나가르주나의 우주의식으로서의공에 대한 사상과 진실한 무한으로서의 화엄사상이 우리에게 철학, 예술, 그리고 비평이론의 최종목표를 보여주는가를 상세히 심층 탐구한다. 마지막으로 포스트모던 윤리사상들 중 레비나스의 철학은 현대서양비평이론들 중 동양의 나가르주나의 공사상과 화엄사상에 가장 가까워져 있으므로 우리로 하여금 서양식 사고방식의 최종목표를 알게 해 주는 역할을 한다. 로이 등의 현재의 서양학자들이 나가르주나의 공사상과 화엄에 대한 매우 깊은 이해를 하고 있음도 구체적으로 설명한다.

영문 초록

This paper has a purpose of exploring how we, Eastern thinkers and critics, can start to contribute to the critical theory, literary criticism in particular, which has been limited to Western thought up to the present time. It first argues that Eastern and Western thoughts in reality have had the same goal, despite the fact that the Western metaphysics has dualism innate in its tradition. Nietzsche and Hegel are shown as the examples of Western thinkers who first had very special interests in Buddhist philosophy but turned out to consider it as a nihilism. Then Heidegger’s ontology is discussed as the most representative example of Western metaphysics that has always started to show difference from the tradition but eventually regressed. Then this paper explores in great detail why and how Nāgārjuna’s philosophy of emptiness as the universal consciousness and Hua-yen as the thought of true infinity without limits should be taken as the supreme teachings that reveal to us the final destination of philosophy, art, and critical theory. It is also discussed that, of contemporary postmodern ethical thoughts, Levinas’s ethics is the closest philosophy toward Nāgārjuna’s philosophy of emptiness and Hua-yen and can bridge the gab between Eastern and Western thoughts.
