노부모와 자녀간의 지원교환이 노인의 심리적 안녕에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 노부모와 자녀간의 지원교환이 노인의 심리적 안녕에 미치는 영향을 분석하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 자녀와 동거하고 있는 65세 이상 노인으로 서울시에 거주하는 282명과 춘천시에 거주하는 208명을 합한 총 490명에 대해 분석이 이루어졌다. 노부모가 자녀와 주고받는 지원으로 도구적 지원, 경제적 지원, 정서적 지원, 상담 지원을 포함하였으며 지원교환의 방향과 유형에 따라 위계적 회귀분석과 공분산분석을 적용하였다. 연구결과 지원교환의 방향(노부모가 자녀에게/자녀가 노부모에게)이 노인이 심리적 안녕에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 지원교환의 유형을 상호호혜형, 공급형, 수혜형의 세 가지로 나누어 노인의 심리적 안녕에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 지원교환의 유형에 따라서도 노인의 심리적 안녕에 유의미한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 노인의 개인 및 환경자원인 노인의 인지기능과 주관적 건강수준, 주관적 경제수준이 노인의 심리적 안녕에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 연구결과에 대해 변수들간의 상호 작용과 사회교환이론과 형평이론의 한계, 척도의 민감성 등을 통해 해석하였으며 추후연구를 위한 제안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Data from 490 elderly living in Seoul and Chunchon with their adult children were analysed to examine the impact of intergenerational support exchange to the psychological well-being of older parents. Results indicated that directional flow of the exchange relation was unrelated to psychological well-being when resource and social demographic factors were controlled. The resource-given and resource-received measures were categorized into three types of (1)balanced exchange, (2)underbenefited exchange, and (3)overbenefited exchange. Analysis of Covariance was conducted to identify differences in three types of exchange when resource and social demographic factors were controlled. Results showed that there were no differences in psychological well-being of the elderly among three types of intergenerational exchange. Cognitive functioning and subjective health status, and subjective financial status were significant covariates. Intergenerational exchange was not useful in explaining variance in older parents' psychological well-being. These results provided support for earlier studies that concluded the amount of help exchanged within families did not affect the well-being of older family members.
