국문 초록

통행은 정상적인 일상생활을 유지하기 위한 최소한의 필요조건이다. 그러나 인간의 고령화에 따른 신체적 경제적 제약조건들은 이들의 통행에 여러가지 장애요인들을 유발하며 따라서 이들의 삶의 질에 커다란 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 우리나라 노인들의 통행패턴을 규명하고 이에 따른 이들의 통행여건을 개선하기 위한 기초작업의 하나로, 본 연구는 서울시에 거주하는 65세 이상의 노인들에 대한 표본조사를 통하여 이들의 통행패턴을 분석하였다. 분석결과 연구 지역 노인들의 이동성의 정도는 상당히 낮은 것으로 나타나며, 이들의 통행행태는 나름대로의 독특한 패턴을 나타내고 있는 것으로 규명되었다. 즉 이들의 통행빈도는 낮고, 통행시간은 짧으며, 통행비용은 거의 지출하지 않는 것으로 나타난다. 또한 이들의 통행수단은 도보와 일반버스가 주종을 이루며, 통행목적 또한 친교 등 특정 목적에 집중되어 발생하고 있다. 이러한 이들의 이동성의 제한은 이들의 신체적인 제약 이외에 저수입, 미취업 등 이들의 사회경제적 특성과 많은 연관성을 가진다. 이와 더불어 현재 우리나라의 미비한 노인여가시설, 그리고 노인통행을 위한 정부의 적절한 제도적 보조정책의 부재 또한 이들의 통행에 제약을 유발하는 주요요인으로 간주될 수 있다.

영문 초록

As the population of the society is getting older, greater attention is given to the problems associated with the elderly. The transportation problem of the elderly is especially important since transportation is a foundamental precondition for the daily living. Travel patterns of the older people in Seoul Area are analyzed in this paper. Through the analysis it is found that the mobility of the elderly is quite low. That is, they tend to travel less, use mostly walk or low quality public transit for their trips, and spend less time and money for the trip. Even though there could be various reasons for the low mobility level of the elderly in the area, the most serious problems associated with the elderly mobility are the socioeconomic status of the elderly. Besides the physical problems of the elderly, most of them do not have jobs so maintain low income level, and there is little recreatioanal or social facilities for the elderly. Further, the transportation systems of the area which are inappropriate for the elderly travel could also contribute to the low mobility level of the elderly.
