국문 초록

한국 최초의 신학교인 평양신학교는 1901년에 설립되어 그 명맥이 지금도 유지되고 있다. 평양신학교의 발단은 자국민에 대한 선교는 자국민이 담당한다는 네비우스 선교정책에 기인했으나, 근본적인 발단은 교회의 급성장으로 인해 선교사로서는 도저히 한국 선교의 수요를 감당할 수가 없어서 자국민 목회자를 양성하고자 하는 목적에 있었다. 따라서 평양신학교의 교육 역시 대체적으로 목회자를 양성하는 데 그 초점이 맞추어져 있었으므로 평양신학교의 학문적 수준이 높지 않다는 한계도 있었다. 이로 인해 한국교회의 수준이 제한되어 있었다는 한계도 있지만, 어려운 시기에 많은 영혼을 하나님 앞으로 인도하는 데 큰 역할을 담당하였다. 더불어 평양신학교의 학적인 배경은 대체적으로 미국의 구 프린스턴 신학교의 신학적 전통을 이어받았다. 이로 인해 한국에 파송된 선교사들은 대체로 칼빈주의적인 배경에 청교도적이며 복음주의적인 성향을 띠었으나, 미국의 3차 부흥운동 후 한국에 자원한 선교사들의 영향으로 종종 종말론에 있어서는 세대주의적인 성향이 보이기도 하였다.

영문 초록

Pyongyang theological seminary is the first educational institution of theology in Korea. This theological Seminary was established in 1901 and has kept the theological tradition for 112 years. This seminary was made in order to cultivate its domestic pastors because Korean churches were increased too many for few missionaries to teach. But the fundamental origin was found in Nevius Mission Statement that the domestic people are in charge of their own missions. Because the purpose of its establishment was the training of pastors in Korean church, the academic level of the seminary was not high. Due to this factor Korean church was overall criticised to be low level, but that church played a great role in the lead of many christians to God. Therefore, the education of the seminary generally focused to training many pastors also. As well the academic background of that seminary was maintaining the theological tradition of Old-Princeton theological seminary in USA. But because there were many missions in various standpoints after the third Revival Movement, there was sometimes Dispensationalism in the light of Eschatology. But these missions had the Puritanical and Evangelical tendency and Calvinistic background. Pyongyang theological seminary is nowadays being maintained by Chongshin theological seminary. Chongshin seminary must keep the Puritanical and Reformational theology as the tradition of Pyongyang seminary.
