본 연구는 개혁주의 도시선교의 전략을 다룬 내용으로서, 니콜라스 월터스톨프(Nicholas Wolterstorff)의 사상 이해와 극복을 시도하였다. 그는 신칼빈주의 신학 전통 위에 서 있는 생존하는 인물로서, 후기 자본주의의 폐단인 사회 경제적 불공정을 극복하려 했던 학자이다. 이 글은 월터스톨프 사상의 근간이 되는 두 인물, 칼빈과 카이퍼의 사역적 특성을 비교함으로써 현대 도시선교를 위한 개혁주의 신학과 전략을 모색하였다. 카이퍼(A. Kuyper)에 의해서 주창되었던 영역주권 개념은, 도예베르트(H. Dooyeweerd)에 의해서 더욱 강화되었음에도 불구하고, 후기 자본주의의 부작용을 극복하는 것에는 한계가 있었다. 니콜라스 월터스톨프의 신칼빈주의 운동은 사회적 약자를 돌아보는 경제정의 실천운동으로서, 도시선교를 위한 개혁주의 선교 전략의 대안이라고 할 수 있다. 하지만 21세기에 들어선 현대의 도시선교 전략은 월터스톨프가 말하는 진정한 평화공동체를 위한 정의, 그 이상의 것이 요구된다. 즉 포스트모더니즘으로 인하여 약화된 기독교적 절대성을 강화할 필요가 요구되는 것이다. 이에 도시선교를 위해 제시된 전략적 대안들은 ①집단의식 개선, ②기독 지성인 육성, ③사립학교의 정부 예산 확보, ④그리스도인의 정치 참여 등이다. 뿐만 아니라, 포스트모더니즘의 현대사회에 맞도록 추가적으로 제시된 전략들은 ⑤각 학문 영역에 대한 기독교적 해석, ⑥각 학문 영역 간의 교류와 융합 ⑦각 전문 분야 간의 통섭을 통한 리더십 배양 등을 현대 포스트모더니즘의 시대에 적합한 현대도시 선교를 위한 전략적 대안이라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This research treats the subject of urban ministry upon reformism, and the objective is to speculate to an in depth understanding of the worldview of Nicholas Wolterstorff, a surviving few of the theologians of traditional Neo-Calvinism whose life's mission evolved around trying to eliminate the vice custom deeply rooted in the capitalistic society. By drawing a comparison between Calvin and Kuyper, the core foundation of Wolterstorff's theological philosophy, the underlying core values of reform theology and strategic approach for the urban ministry will be groped. This peculiar notion of sphere sovereignty has been first introduced by the Neo-Calvinist theologian and Dutch prime minister Abraham Kuyper(1837-1920) and further developed by philosopher Herman Dooyeweerd(1894-1977). Despite the effort to overcome the adverse effects of capitalism which closed links with human greed and social injustice, this sphere sovereignty movement gradually reached its limits and came to a halt. Nicholas Wolterstorff's Neo-Calvinism movement is an economic justice movement to advocate those who are categorized as the second-class citizens, furthermore is thought to be an exemplary solution to the urban ministry of the reformed missions. However, due to the difference of the context of historical background, there is a different need of input required than that of Wolterstorff's justice mandate to establish a shalom community during his period. That is, the fortifying of Christian absolute integrity which has been withered by post-modernism. As a conclusion, the strategies for the urban ministry suggested are: improvement of the mass consciousness, fostering of Christian intellectuals, assigned budget from the government for private school, not helped or supported, and partaking in the politics. Furthermore, due to the demand to fit the post-modernistic context of our current society, additional plausible countermeasures such as mandatory application of Christian doctrine in all study fields, open communication and amalgamation between every study field, amplifying leadership qualities by interacting between each professional field are suggested as the strategic answer to a successful maneuvering of urban ministry.
