영문 초록

The primary purpose of this study is to examine the role of Michelle Obama as First Lady, her leadership and the Michelle effect. On January 20, 2009, Barack Obama made history. He became the first African-American President of the United States. On that same day, his wife, Michelle Obama also made history, becoming the first African-American First Lady. Michelle Obama represents a First Lady who is more than a figurehead. She works for causes that have special meanings for American families and children. By working on the campaign trail sharing in Barrack's vision, Michelle played an integral role as a powerful wife in the election of her husband. Having been a working mom, she hoped to help other women juggle the demands of a job and a family. After she became the First Lady, Michelle has continued to do what she enjoyed most, being the Mom-in-Chief. In April 2009, Michelle planted a kitchen garden at the White House. The White House Kitchen Garden inspired a new conversation across the country about food, health and the well-being of the children. In February 2010, she launched Let's Move!, a national campaign for childhood obesity. Let's Move is a multi-faceted attempt to increase knowledge and change attitudes and social norms regarding healthy eating and exercise. Ultimately, the White House Kitchen Garden along with the Let's Move campaign-is an expression of hope for the American people. Michelle also became a fashion icon. Her fashion style became one of the important ways to she connected with the people. She mixed and matched different designers, styles and price-points. She also dressed-the way of most middle class American women would dress. As a result, Michelle Obama created the so called "Michelle Effect." Michelle Obama embodies the American story-the American Dream. She is charismatic in a smart and gutsy way. Michelle Obama is able to combine her contemporary style and working mother identity. Through speeches, interviews, and town hall meetings, Michelle Obama inspires women and men all over the world and continues to serve as an impressive role model and new leader.
