국문 초록

단종의 즉위(1452)와 계유정난(1453), 단종의 선위(1455)와 제1차 단종복위운동(1456), 제2차 단종복위운동(1457)은 조선 건국 후 60년 만에 정국의 지각 변동을 초래한 대표적인 사건이다. 친 세조파는 공신으로 책봉되어, 새로운 권력층이 되면서 훈구파로 굳어졌다. 세조의 집권 과정에서 나타난 특징 중의 하나는 父子 간은 물론, 祖孫 간, 형제 간, 친척 간에도 권력의 지향점이 전혀 다른 양상을 보인다는 사실이다. 가문 의식과 명분 의식보다 권력을 향한 집념이 더욱 확연하게 나타난 것이다. 시간의 고금을 막론하고, '정치에는 영원한 적도 없고, 아군도 없다.'는 전형적인 정치 행태가 드러났으며, 이 과정에서 권력의 지형도가 전면 새롭게 그려진 것이다. 세조의 집권에 성공한 공신들은 자신들의 행위가 옳았음을 강조하기 위해, 여러 가지 방법을 동원해 정당성 부여 작업을 진행했다. 공신 책봉은 물론, 정권의 정당성 확보를 위해 많은 신화를 만들었다. 각종 기록의 정리 작업을 통해, 자신들의 행위에 대한 합리화 작업을 병행하였다. 그러나 어떠한 조치가 되었든, 이들이 전개한 정당성 확보 노력은 명분을 잃은 정권이 도덕성과 합리성을 강조하기 위해 벌인 술수일 뿐이었다. 수양대군과 한명회의 만남에 대해, 왕위에 목표를 둔 야심가와 권력에 목숨을 건 출세주의자의 만남이라고 하는 이유가 여기에 있다.

영문 초록

It was remarkably historical events such as Danjong's accession to the throne in (1452), Gyeyoojeongnan(1453), Danjong's abdication of the throne(1455), the first(1456) and the second campaign for Danjong's restoration(1457) that happened and immensely affected the Joseon Dynasty only after the Joseon was founded in 1392. A supporting group of people for Sejo were invested as recognized contributors, became new class with power, and were formed as Hoongoo clique, scholars in Jiphyeonjeon. One of the characteristics in the process of Sejo's seizure of power was the fact that it showed different directing points in authority among father and sons, grandfather and grandsons, brothers, and also relatives. That is to say, it can be said that tenacity of purpose in power rather than consciousness of the family and justification obviously was revealed. The typical political manner of all time that there are neither permanent enemies nor permanent friends was disclosed and furthermore the new situation in power was drawn in the meanwhile. A supporting group of recognized contributors for Sejo's seizure of power proceeded to justify their behaviors in order to emphasize the rightness of their cause. Many myths was entirely made up to obtain the justification for the government besides the installation of recognized contributors. Simultaneously, they rationalized their wrongful act by arranging the various records. However, in the face of such measures, their effort to come by the appropriateness was the cunning trickery that the government without justification did use to highlight the morality and rationality of Sejo. That is the reason that the meeting for both Sooyang-daegun and Han Meoung-Whay was merely that for an ambitious man to look for throne and a man captured by ambitions only for success in power at the hazard of his own life.
