국문 초록

본 연구는 시설에 거주하고 있는 노인의 우울증의 중요한 요인들을 찾고, 경로분석을 통해 그 메카니즘을 밝힘으로서 우울증 예방을 위한 이해를 넓히기 위한 목적에서 이루어졌다. 조사대상은 307명의 경기도 지역시설에 머물고 있는 노인들이었으며, 설문조사를 통해 자료가 수집되었다. 사용된 독립변수는 사회인구학적 변수로 나이, 성별, 종교, 교육정도가, 건강관련변수로 주관적 건강상태평가와 신체활동능력, 그리고 사회적지지 변수가 고려되었다. 자아통제감은 건강관련변수와 우울증을 매개해주는 변수로 사용되었다. 조사결과 자아통제감은 시설노인의 우울증을 매개해 주는 변수가 아닌 것으로 나타났으며, 시설생활특성변수가 우울증에 영향을 미치는 변수로 나타났다. 인구사회학적 변수로는 종교, 주관적 건강상태평가, 사회적지지 등이 우울증에 영향을 미치는 변수로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The purposes of this research were to identify major factors that affect geriatric depression among the elderly of institutional settings and to broaden the understanding of depression through the investigation of depression mechanism. Total 307 Elderly people in the institution of Kyunggi-Do area were interviewed, using depression and self-efficacy scales. In the survey research, independent variables include socio-demographic factors (age, gender, religion, education level, social support) and health status (activities of daily living, self-rated health status). In addition to these variables, the characteristics of institutional life for the elderly were included to investigate the effect of those variables. The research model postulates the sense of control as preceding cognitive process of depression. For this, a path analysis is employed. The results show that social support, self-reported health status, and satisfaction of institutional life have a significant effect on depression among the independent variables. These variables have significant effects on depression, and also have a positive effects on a sense of control. The findings show that a sense of control does not mediate the process of developing depression among the elderly. These findings contribute to a better understanding of developing depression, and suggest effective intervention programs for treatment or prevention of depression among the elderly of institutional settings.
