국문 초록

공식 범죄통계의 비율과는 달리 대인 강력범죄는 매우 높은 비율로 기사화된다. 특히, 살인사건의 경우는 더욱 대중의 이목을 끌기 때문에 자주 그리고 지속적으로 보도되는 경향이 있다. 이러한 이유들 때문에 살인사건 보도가 사회에 미치는 영향력은 더욱 커지게 되며 때로는 범죄보도가 모방범죄의 원인으로 비판받기도 하는가 하면 사형과 같은 엄벌주의에 대한 대중의 여론을 형성하는 근거가 되는데 결정적인 영향을 미치기도 한다. 다수의 선행연구에서 살인범죄가 다른 유형의 범죄에 비해서 불균형적으로 미디어를 통하여 보도된다는 것이 입증되기도 했지만 이러한 보도가 폭력적인 범죄의 실상을 얼마나 정확하게 반영하는지 또는 어떤 내용을 다루고 있는지에 대해서는 알려진 바가 거의 없다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 미디어에서 묘사되는 살인사건을 중심으로 이전의 내용분석에서 심도 있게 다루지 않았던 보도내용을 심층적으로 분석하고 그 변화양상을 함께 연구하고자 하였다. 이와 같은 보도내용의 분석은 신문보도가 살인사건의 실상을 제대로 전달하고 있는가를 밝히고 보도된 신문보도의 구체적인 내용이 무엇인가를 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구의 목적을 위하여 이 연구에서는 2004년부터 2013년까지, 총 10년의 기간 동안 보도된 신문매체의 살인사건 기사를 수집하여 그 내용을 분석하였다. 분석을 통하여 지난 10년간 한국에서의 살인사건 보도 특성 및 경향, 그리고 현행 보도관행의 문제점과 한계를 파악할 수 있었다. 또한 신문보도는 살인사건의 내용을 있는 그대로 전달하기 보다는 주어진 현실을 특정방식으로 구성하는 행위라는 현실구성론에 입각하여 집중되고 재조명된다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

It is less likely for most of people to be directly victimized or get the firsthand information on crime. More probably, it is mass media that we can get the information on crime, and we get scared of it and try to prepare countermeasures on it. News programs from terrestrial TV channels and reports from major national daily newspapers have a strong influence on audience. Thus, they play an important role as an opinion leader in forming public opinion and decision making in policy. For these reasons, it is needed to examine how mass media report the crime reality and how accurate they report as mass media is the first resource for the public to get the information on crime. Previous findings focused on quantitative aspects of crime reports and sensationalized expressions of media dealing with crime issues. However, this study analyzes the contents of reports on homicide which were reported for the last decade(from 2004 to 2013). Based on the analysis, this study examines the characteristics of crime report and current trend in it. More specifically, the list of items to be analyzed in crime report is as follows: modus operandi, personal information related to the offender, existence of co-offender(s), recidivism, personal information related to the victim(s), relation between the offender and the victim, victim blaming, cause of crime, sentencing and punishment of the crime. Contents of crime report, which were not mainly discussed in previous findings, and its changing aspects are examined. It is expected to identify and evaluate the problems and limitation in current reporting practice by exploring the reporting attitude and trends in homicide cases. Also, it is expected to activate further studies in terms of lack of previous studies in media reports on homicide cases in Korea.
