베이비붐세대의 문화자본이 문화활동에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 초고령사회의 예비노인이라 할 수 있는 베이비붐세대(출생연도 1954년부터 1968년까지 출생자)를 대상으로 노인의 여가활동에 관한 선행연구들이 초점을 둔 소득수준, 문화시설의 접근성, 건강상태뿐 아니라 Bourdieu(1977)에 의해 주장된 문화자본을 함께 고려하여 베이비붐세대의 문화활동 참여경험의 영향요인을 살펴보는 데 있다. 수도권에 거주하는 베이비붐세대를 대상으로 성별과 학력을 기준으로 할당표집방법을 활용하였고, 총 292부의 설문응답이 최종분석의 대상이 되었다. 분석결과, 문화활동 8개 영역(문화예술 관람, 문화예술 창작 및 발표활동 등)의 참여여부에 있어 성별차이가 유의미하게 나타났으며, 건강상태가 양호할수록, 문화시설 접근성이 높을수록, 혼인 상태에 있을수록, 경제자본이 높을수록, 문화자본이 높을수록 각 영역의 참여경험이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 상속문화자본과 획득문화자본의 영향력은 각각의 문화활동 8개 영역과 전반적인 문화활동 참여경험 총합에서 유의미한 영향요인으로 규명되었다. 선행연구에서 보고된 노인의 여가활용 실태와 비교하면, 베이비붐세대의 문화활동 참여는 다양한 영역에서 비교적 활발히 진행되고 있었으며, 이는 현재 노인들의 단순 여가활동 수준에서 벗어나 문화자본을 많이 소유한, 미래의 노인인 베이비붐세대의 욕구에 부응하는 문화복지 정책과 서비스의 활성화가 시급함을 시사해 준다.

영문 초록

From a cultural capital perspective, developed by Bourdieu(1977), this study investigates the relationship of the cultural capital with the participation in cultural activities among Korean baby boomers, defined as individuals born during 1954-1968. A quota sampling procedure was used to consider gender and educational levels in Seoul and suburb areas, and a total of 292 responses were analyzed. Results from a series of regression analysis indicate that gender and the levels of inherited and acquired cultural capital are important factors influencing cultural activities (e.g., attend a professional concert or performance, do any cultural and visual art). Overall, those with better physical health conditions, having greater accessibility to facilities, being married, and having higher incomes are more likely to participate in each area of cultural activities during the past year. Contrary to the low participation level of individuals aged 65 or older in leisure and cultural activities, the baby-boomers appear to have a wide variation in their cultural capital and a diverse cultural interest. The findings suggest that social and cultural policy designed for prospective aging population need to go beyond simple and passive activities and are expanded in the culture-related education and services from the life course and cultural capital perspectives.
