며느리에 의한 노인학대 과정에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 노인학대를 가한 며느리를 대상으로 하여 노인과의 관계에서 그들이 경험한 노인학대 과정을 맥락적으로 이해하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 연구방법은 6명의 며느리를 심층면담하여 Strauss와 Corbin의 근거이론방법론에 따라 개방코딩, 축코딩, 선택코딩을 실시하였다. 연구결과 개방코딩에서 77개의 개념, 35개의 하위 범주, 15개 범주를 도출하였으며, 이를 중심으로 가해며느리가 경험한 노인학대 과정을 「잠복기」, 「버티기」, 「벗어나기」, 「반격하기」, 「조정하기」단계로 나누어 설명하였다. 이상의 노인학대 과정 분석을 통해 본 연구자는 다음과 같은 점을 논의하였다. 첫째, 노인학대 시작은 노인 돌봄 축소 또는 거부를 시작하는 '밀어내기'부터였다. 둘째, 노인학대의 핵심요인은 노인과 며느리가 가족이라는 틀 속에서 경험한 '관계의 질'에 영향을 받았다. 셋째, 노인학대 발생 요인에 있어서는 가해며느리가 노인에게 대항할만한 힘이 생기고 노인에 대한 통제가 가능해지는 '힘의 역전이'가 중요하게 영향을 주었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to understand the process of committing elder abuse by daughter-in-laws with particular focus on their experiences. According to the analysis method from Grounded Theory(Strauss & Corbin, 1998), 6 women who had the experience of abusing their parent-in-laws were interviewed. The interview results were analyzed using open, axial, and selective coding methods. The process of abuse by daughter-in-laws of their elders was divided to five phases; 'latent phase', 'endurance', 'escape', 'offending' and 'adjustment'. The results are following: First, daughter-in-laws tend to start elder abuse when they cannot get out of their care-giver role against frail elders although they do not want to. Second, elder abuse is mostly influenced by the quality of relationship between elders and their daughter-in-laws. Finally, we can explain elder abuse using the concept of 'power reversal'. Specifically, daughter-in-laws tend to start elder abuse when they get enough power to resist authority of elders and to control elders.
