중소기업관리자의 외국인에 대한 사회적 거리 분석

국문 초록

한국에서 외국인노동자를 고용하고 있는 중소기업관리자의 국내 외국인 집단에 대한 사회적 거리감을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 분석 자료는 2009년 한국산업인력공단에서 실시한 '고용허가제 송출국가별 사용자 선호도 차이발생사유 등 분석 및 개선방안 연구'의 원자료를 기본으로, 같은 해 전북대학교 사회조사실습팀에서 실시한 '한국 대학생의 의식과 생활에 대한 조사연구'의 원자료를 보조로 사용한다. 국내에 유입된 25개 외국인 집단에 대한 사회적 거리를 보가더스 척도를 이용하여 측정하였다. 기업관리자가 특정 나라 출신 외국인노동자를 고용하면서 장기 접촉한 경험은 그 나라 출신 외국인 집단에 대한 그의 태도에 긍정적 영향을 미친다. 특정국 출신 외국인노동자를 고용한 경험이 있는 기업관리자는 그렇지 않은 기업관리자보다 그 나라에 대하여 훨씬 우호적 태도를 가진다. 그 차이는 통계적으로 유의미하다. 기업관리자와 외국인노동자 간의 상호 이해와 소통에 기반을 둔 상호작용이 한국인과 외국인 간의 사회적 거리를 단축하는 데 강한 영향을 미친다. 이 연구의 결과는 외국인노동자와 같은 사업장에서 일하는 한국인 기업관리자와 노동자가 다문화 수용성 고취 노력의 주요 표적 집단이 되어야 한다는 정책적 함의를 준다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the prejudice of the employers of the small and medium enterprises hiring foreign migrant workers in Korea, a society with increasing cultural diversity. Using survey data from the Korean Employers' Differential Preferences for Migrant Workers according to the Country of Origin under the Employment Permit Program for Foreigners conducted by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea in 2009, this study analyzes social distance between Koreans and foreigners. The employers' social distance toward immigrants of major twenty-five country groups in Korea is measured using Bogardus scale. Major findings are as follows. The experience of employing foreign workers from a certain country of origin gives positive effects on the employers' attitudes towards the immigrants from the country in Korea. The mean difference of social distance scores between employers and non-employers toward major immigrant groups is statistically significant. The interactions between foreign migrant workers and Korean employers are strong effects on shortening the social distance. Findings of this research are expected to provide useful policy implications for enhancing Korean citizens' multicultural acceptability. The first target group of policy intervention is Korean employers and workers working with foreign migrant workers at the same workplace.
