부모와 학생관련 변수가 고등학생의 읽기성취에 미치는 효과

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 2009년 국가수준 학업성취도(NAEA)와 OECD의 Programme for International Student Assessment(PISA) 2009 연계 자료를 활용하여, 고등학교 학생들의 읽기성취도에 영향을 미치는 부모변수(읽기활동과 읽기지지)와 학생변수(읽기태도, 읽기활동, 인지전략)의 구조적 관계들을 탐색하였다. 또한 이러한 구조적 관계가 성별과 검사성격에 따라 어떤 차이를 보이는가를 추가로 검증하였다. 연구문제로는 첫째, NAEA와 PISA 검사에서 부모의 읽기활동과 읽기지지, 자녀의 읽기태도와 읽기활동, 인지전략, 읽기성취도 간의 구조적 관계는 어떠한가? 둘째, 이들 구조적 관계는 성별에 따라서 어떠한 차이가 있는가? 를 설정하였고, 연구결과 부모의 읽기활동과 읽기지지는 자녀의 읽기태도, 읽기활동, 인지전략을 매개로 읽기성취에 긍정적으로 영향을 주었다. 또한 긍정적 읽기태도를 가지고 읽기활동에 활발히 참여하는 학생은 효과적인 인지전략을 보다 빈번히 사용하고, 이는 읽기성취도에 긍정적 영향을 주고 있었다. 대체로 여학생이 남학생보다 읽기태도나 활동이 읽기성취에 미치는 직접, 간접효과가 컸다. 또한 검사성격에 따라서도 이러한 효과의 차이가 나타났으며, NAEA보다 PISA에서의 효과가 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 읽기의 긍정적 효과를 통해 교사와 학부모 및 학생에게 읽기의 중요성과 읽기프로그램 구안 시 유의해야 할 점 등을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of the current study is to reveal how parent's reading activities and their supports for reading affect their children's reading achievement via children's reading attitudes, reading activities, and cognitive strategy. The research questions are as follows: First, is there any structural relationship among parent's reading attitudes/activities and supports for reading activities, children's reading attitudes/activities in reading, cognitive strategy, and Korean language Achievement? Second, if there exists sufficient evidence to support a structural relationship, how is this relationship affected by test characteristics in Korean language achievement (NAEA vs. PISA) and gender? The present study implements a structural equation modeling (SEM) and a multi-group analysis with the NAEA and PISA 2009 data. Results showed that parental reading-related variables had significant direct and indirect effects on children's reading achievement via their reading attitudes/activities and cognitive strategy use. There were some different patterns in path coefficients from PISA model and NAEA model. Gender was also found to have significant moderation effects on reading outcome depending on the test type. Results from the current study could provide practical evidence showing effectiveness of reading program and help teachers, parents, and students become aware of importance of reading.
