불완전 종단자료의 분석에서 다층성장모형과 잠재성장모형의 고정효과 모수 추정 비교

국문 초록

종단자료의 구축은 동일한 개체를 여러 시점에서 반복하여 관찰하는 활동이므로, 관찰시점의 간격 문제와 관찰단위의 손실로 인한 결측의 문제를 피하기 어렵다. 이 연구는 종단자료의 특성인 관찰시점의 비등간성과 결측유형에 따라 다층성장모형과 잠재성장모형의 고정효과 모수추정이 편향성과 효율성에서 어떠한 영향을 받는지 모의실험으로 규명한 것이다. 모의실험 조건은 반복관찰시점의 간격조건(4), 결측유형(3), 표본 크기(3)에 따라 총 36가지이다. 분석 결과, 모든 개체가 동시에 관찰된다면, 등간격과 비등간격인 경우 두 모형은 유사한 결과를 산출하였으며, 편의도 발생하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 비등간격인 관찰시점을 등간격인 것을 가정한 모형을 사용하면, 동일한 성장모형 내에서 절편과 기울기 모수의 추정은 상이한 영향을 받으며, 두 성장모형 사이에도 차이가 있었다. 개인별 관찰 시점이 다른 상황에서 결측이 발생한 경우에는 결측 유형과 상관없이 두 모형 모두 편의가 발생하였다. 이 결과는 연구자가 관찰간격을 정확히 반영하는 모형을 사용해야 함과 동시에 개인별 관찰 시점이 다를 경우 각 시점별 사례수를 충분히 확보해야 함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Longitudinal data are collected through repeated observations of the same subjects over a long period of time. Consequently, missing cases are often occurred during the data collection due to attrition, uneven space of observation periods, and different observation schedules for certain subjects. This study investigates to what extent different time spacing of observation periods and different type of missing data influence the properties of the fixed effect parameter estimators of two popular statistical models: multilevel growth model and latent growth model. The study analyzed simulation data that were generated under the conditions of three variables: (a) different time spaces of observation periods (equal, unequal, and uneven), (b) three types of missing mechanisms including MCAR_G (Missing Completely At Random_General pattern), MCAR_M (Missing Completely At Random_Monotone pattern), and MAR_M (Missing At Random_Monotone pattern), and (c) different sample sizes (30, 60, and 120). The findings of this study indicate the following. When the time points of observation were the same for all the subjects, both HLM and SEM produced similar results when all the assumed conditions were met. On the other hand, adjusting unequally spaced observations to equally spaced data led to bias in the estimators of the fixed effects growth rate parameters. Also, both estimators of HLM and of SEM showed bias when missing cases occurred in unequally spaced data regardless of the type of missing mechanism. The results of this study strongly suggest future studies to secure an adequate amount of individual observations and sufficient sample size for each time point of observation during data collection.
