Terminological suffixing and derivation of Korean legal terms: aspects of translation into Russian and Ukrainian

국문 초록

본 논문은 한국어에서 전문분야 범주의 접미사 첨가를 통한 법률용어 파생수단들의 분석과 접미사(혹은 의존명사)를 성분으로 가지고 있는 전문용어를 러시아어와 우크라이나어로 어떻게 번역할 것인가 하는 문제를 다루고 있다. 본고는 <관>, <권>, <금>, <료>, <물>, <법>, <비>, <서>, <인>, <자> 그리고 <지> 등 11개의 전문용어 범주의 접미사들을 포함한 법률용어 파생패턴과 그 패턴들에 의해서 파생된 3음절 전문용어를 다루고 있다. 한국어 법률용어들이 대부분이 한자어이기 때문에 한국어에 존재하는 한자어 접미사에 관한 정의 등 이론적 토대를 살피고 이러한 이론적인 기초에 입각해서 앞서 말한 접미사를 성분으로 가지고 있는 3음절 전문용어를 법률용어 사전들에서 발췌하고 분석하였다. 유감스럽게도 현존하는 한-러, 한-우 사전들은 전문분야 접미사 조어 방식을 통한 법률용어에 대한 명확한 정의를 내리지 못하고 있고, 설령 수록되어 있는 어휘들도 그 전문용어 범주의 접미사가 쓰인 전문용어의 의미를 전적으로 반영하지 못하고 있다. 본고에서는 이러한 공백을 메우고자 하는 시도와 동시에 해당하는 한국어 법률용어들의 러시아어와 우크라이나어로 적절한 번역의 가이드 라인을 제시하고 있다. 11개의 전문용어 범주의 접미사가 첨가하는 각 11개 파생패턴별로 167개의 어휘의 의미구조를 분석하여 번역을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This article has two objectives: 1) to analyze terminological suffixing as a way to derive legal terms in Korean which belong to various sub-spheres of law; 2) to suggest the translation of the derived terms into Russian and Ukrainian. The paper focuses on the 11 derivation patterns which employ Korean terminological suffixes <관>, <권>, <금>, <료>, <물>, <법>, <비>, <서>, <인>, <자> and <지> as well as their products - three-component derivatives. To achieve the goal a brief insight into theoretical background of suffix definitions in Korean language, namely in its Sino-Korean lexicon, was provided. After that the definition of 'terminological' suffixes was considered in the paper. These two criteria were used to analyze the legal terminology of Korean language and select those three-component units which were derived with the help of the above-mentioned Sino-Korean terminological suffixes. The paper aims to provide a proper translation of the corresponding Korean terms into the two target languages. This goal is stipulated by the needs of inter-cultural communication and growing Korean-Russian and Korean-Ukrainian contacts. Unfortunately, the existing Korean-Russian and Korean- Ukrainian dictionaries either do not provide the translation of many terminological units in focus, or their rendering can not be considered satisfactory. Thus, this article suggests an analysis of 11 terminological derivation patterns in the Korean language. As a result, the structure of 167 Korean terms was studied and their suitable equivalents in Russian and Ukrainian languages were suggested.
