송광사의 역사적 의의

국문 초록

이 논문에서는 퇴옹성철이 보조지눌을 비판한 것이 정당한 것인지 검토하고자 한다. 2장에서는 성철이 『선문정로』와 『한국불교의 법맥(증보판)』에서 보조지눌의 사상을 비판한 것을 소개한다. 3장에서는 『간화결의론(看話決疑論)』에 대한 성철의 비판을 다시 검토해 본다. 그 결과 성철의 『간화결의론』에 대한 비판은 『간화결의론』을 잘못 읽었거나 관점이 다른 데서 나온 것임을 확인할 수 있다. 4장에서는 성철의 수증론(修證論)이 돈오돈수(頓悟頓修) 또는 증오점수(證悟漸修)라는 것을 소개하고, 이러한 성철의 수증론이 다른 선사(禪師)에 의해 지지될 수 있는지 검토한다. 종문(宗門)의 7서(七書)에 포함되는 『선관책진(禪關策進)』에서는 성철의 수증론과 다른 주장을 하고 있다. 또한 성철은 자신의 수증론을 옹호하기 위해서 여러 선사의 견해를 인용하고 있는데, 4장에서는 그 가운데 서산대사 청허(淸虛), 대혜종고(大慧宗杲), 나옹혜근(懶翁惠勤)의 주장을 검토한다. 그 결과 성철은 이 3명의 사상을 잘못 인용하고 있거나 자신의 주장에 유리한 부분만을 인용하고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 결론부분에서는 돈오점수(頓悟漸修)와 돈오돈수의 논쟁을 넘어서서 현대사회에 부합하는 새로운 수행론을 모색할 필요성이 있다는 것을 말한다.

영문 초록

This paper is an article for the announcement at the 23rd regular scholarship conference about Bojo's thought with the theme, 'The stage and the future of Songkwangsa Temple as the best temple of monk treasure. This paper aimed to provide the history of Songkwangsa Temple and its historical significance at the angle of the thought. I examined the theme with four parts to take a view of the historical significance of Songkwangsa Temple as followings. Firstly, I dealt with the general view of the history of Songkwangsa Temple. I divided the history into five periods from the opening Songkwangsa Temple until now. Secondly, I explored the characteristics of the thoughts of Bojo-Jinul and Jingak-Hyeasim and the change of every period of Suseonsa Temple. Thirdly, I considered the activities and the characteristics of the thought of Buhyu's group staying Songkwangsa Temple at the latter period of Choseon era. Finally, I offered the propelled background and the historical significance of the second association with meditation and wisdom by modern monks, Hyobong and Gusan. For the most part, the established researches about Songkwangsa Temple have tended to center around Jinul's association with meditation and wisdom, the thoughts of Jingak-Hyeasim, Hyobong and Gusan. The aim of this study is to reconsider the general cognition by stressing the activities of Buhyu's group at the latter period of Choseon era neglected by the mass population. My another aim is to bring the matter to start full-scale researches afterwards by overcoming historical discontinuation and taking a view of overall history of Songkwangsa Temple in Choseon era.
