국문 초록

이 논문은 국가 사적 문화재로 지정된 도산서원ㆍ병산서원ㆍ옥산서원ㆍ도동서원 등 4개 서원의 입지와 내부 공간 구성에 대한 연구이다. 한국서원은 대체로 도시에서 멀리 있어서 공부하기에 좋은 조용한 환경과 아름다운 자연경치, 그리고 선현의 유적지를 입지 조건으로 한다. 서원의 구체적 입지와 내부 공간 구성은 신유학 사상과 풍수사상의 영향을 받았다. 연구 결과 4개 서원의 특성은 다음과 같다. 한국서원은 '천인합일의 인'을 체득할 수 있도록 전망 경관과 유식 장소를 갖추었다. 유교의 예를 '전저후고'의 지형 위에 '전당후묘'의 내부 공간을 구성하여 구현하였다. 나아가 서원의 당호 현판은 상징적 기호경관이 되어 서원을 교학적 의미로 채웠다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to interpret location and inner part organization of Korean Seowons, especially focused on Dosan SeowonㆍByuongsan SeowonㆍOksan SeowonㆍDodong Seowon, designated by Korean Government as national historic site. Generally speaking, Korean Seowons are built on a site distant from cities, surrounded by scenic landscape, and related to the life and career of a sage who was enshrined there. The detailed location and inner part organization of Korean Seowons reflect the ideologies of Neo-Confucianism and fungsu. Characteristics of four Seowons are as follows : They secured sightseeing and amusement places which enables spiritual union toward heaven and human beings. They embodied confucian propriety by constructing spatial order where "education in the front and religion in the back" is placed on the ground configuration of"low front and high back''. Moreover, characterial symbols of Seowon building names filled Seowon with educational meanings.
